Brilliant Coldness – “Poisoned Reality” Review

It seemed like a good idea to put a new review online… so here you go!
Once you started listening to this album, it’s very difficult to ignore it. “Poisoned Reality” is by no means background music. In fact, I’d liken it to being squished by a grand piano that had fallen from a great height… and I mean this in an entirely good way. If there is a good way to be assaulted by a piano…
Anywho…
This album’s got the works – brutality, aggression and an absolutely downright superb use of tempo changes. All that, and the bass sounds fantastic! It’s really cool to hear it right up there as a main focus in the mix, rather than lost beneath everything else.
Stand out tracks? Yep, you guessed it – there’s a few of ‘em! My personal favourite at the moment is “Post-Mortem Reality”… The neo-classical part (well, I think it is… kinda) in “Return to the Unbeingness” at around (just before) the 4 minute mark is a stroke of genius and the opening track “Kingdom of the Dead” really showcases that bass thang! Oh, and “Cobweb of Self-Destruction” just makes me want to bang my head!
All in all, “Poisoned Reality” is a truly great album. Perfect for drowning out the crap radio station that people at work insist of listening to… Yep, this kind of Technical Death Metal makes Lou a happy bunny! Is “Poisoned Reality” enough for me to develop an obsession with this band? I’m not sure yet… Ask me later
A rating out of 10? Umm… 9.666.

The underlying theme is through the discovery of truth we find ultimate hopelessness. Each song explores death in a different context and theme.
— Voldamares, Eclipse Eternal, http://bit.ly/Hv2kYEI think more bands should prioritize exposure over sales. The more exposure, the more sales. Be it ticket sales, album sales, or merch sales. That’s the way I see it.
— Necrol, Secrets She Kept, http://bit.ly/HEaNHXEven when all seems fine Plaag will still be around to do a little tormenting here and there...
— Somber von Plaag, Plaag, http://bit.ly/IvTyW2I am personally still a CD buyer and probably always will be. I like having the physical artwork in my hands. Mp3’s to me are not very attractive because I feel I’m not getting my money’s worth.

— Tom Stevens, Nokturnel, http://bit.ly/Injd6yThe lyrics are mainly based in fantasy, and try to convey a larger concept, peppered with metaphors that hint at some very personal events and feelings.
— Ruptured Souls, The Furious Horde, http://bit.ly/HyfPUx...so now we’re thinking about the next step. And don’t worry. When we hit the road, I guarantee we won’t miss the UK!
