I’ve gone over to the darkside…
I bought an iPod last week. Ok, so that may not be groundbreaking news, but considering that I’ve been wholeheartedly against the idea of getting an iPod for so many years, it seems worthy of a mention. I always felt that iPods were over-priced fashion accessories that had a monopoly on the MP3 player market as people generally referred to all MP3 players as ‘iPods’ (in much the same way as many referred to personal cassette players [and CD players for that matter] as “Walkmans” [which is a Sony name] and vacuum cleaners as “Hoovers”). So, what made me change my mind?
Size, my friend. Size. Sometimes it really does matter! I felt I had outgrown my 30GB Creative Zen so I set to work at looking around at a replacement. Originally I had my heart set on a 64GB Zen, but then my good friend LaurLau pointed out that there was another MP3 player out there… for under £200… and it had a whopping 160GB memory! I’d have been an idiot to pass that up… so, as soon as I had the cash available, I bought one.
Now we get to the actual reason for me writing this here today (nope, it wasn’t to provide Apple with some free advertising)…
The fact is that my 30GB player only had enough memory for a few of my favourite albums and whatever new stuff I wanted to listen to / review. Now that I’ve got all of this extra memory, it’s like I’ve rediscovered my entire music collection again. It’s strangely invigorating! I’ve been putting on certain albums and I feel like I’m 17 again. It’s brilliant! If everyone revisited their youth frequently by listening to their old albums, people would lighten up and the world would be a much happier place… well, I think so anyway. Ok, I realise that my youth isn’t that far away… but hey, my point still stands.
Anyway, the point of this post is pretty much just to forewarn you… As well as reviews of new stuff, I have a feeling that I’ll be revisiting quite a bit of old stuff too.

— Somber von Plaag, Plaag, http://bit.ly/IvTyW2The lyrics are mainly based in fantasy, and try to convey a larger concept, peppered with metaphors that hint at some very personal events and feelings.
— Ruptured Souls, The Furious Horde, http://bit.ly/HyfPUxI am personally still a CD buyer and probably always will be. I like having the physical artwork in my hands. Mp3’s to me are not very attractive because I feel I’m not getting my money’s worth.
