Cyndi Cyanide

Ok, this isn’t a review… more of an appeal for information

Picture the scene: It was 2001 / 2002 and I was taking my first tentative steps into the Internet. At this point I was 17-18 years old and teaching myself how to build websites… and, it was at this point, that I first got into discovering bands that no-one else had heard of. This wasn’t to be cool or anything, it’s just that I really liked how I could be told the name of a band on one forum (or, I should say, MSN Community – wow, that was a LONG time ago!) one minute and the next I could be listening to them. You’ve got to remember that up until that moment, my main method for discovering music was either by going to the local record shop (RIP Beanos ) and buying stuff by bands vaguely related to other bands I liked (basically, anything marginally related to Guns N’ Roses or Alice Cooper was purchased!), reading about albums in magazines or word of mouth. In the grand scheme of things 2001 wasn’t that long ago, but back then the Internet was still a luxury… and it was still all shiny and new to me.

One of the first bands I found out about through the World Wide Web was Cyndi Cyanide. I had my own little MSN Group/Community site for Metal/Rock fans (haha – sound familiar?) and some random person joined up one day and told me that I had to check out this band. I was curious, so I did (not much has changed there!). I can’t remember if I ended up buying “Chemical MasterPeace” or if the band sent it to me once I’d contacted them (what do you want from me? It was 9 years ago!), but I remember feeling very excited when it arrived in the post. Looking back now, I was so excited that I probably would have fallen in love with whatever music was on that disc, no matter what it was. I was younger then and far less cynical.

I’ve been listening to “Chemical MasterPeace” for the first time in god-knows-how-many-years and, now that I’m older and a little more world-weary, I can see the flaws in it. For example, I’m not 100% happy with the production (but back in 2001 I wouldn’t have given a shit about that)… But, it doesn’t matter. My inner 17 year old is singing along (I can still remember the words! ) and thinking “this is awesome!”.

Cyndi Cyanide also released another album, “Rain On Down”, in 2004 – and they thanked me in the liner notes! I felt so special Aww, younger me was so sweet…

Anyway, my reasons behind posting all of this are two-fold:

1. Rediscovering music is always fun
2. I’d really like to get back in touch with at least one of the Cyndi Cyanide guys (I seem to remember that the band split up shortly after “Rain On Down” was released)… so, here’s where you, dear reader, come in… If anyone knows of any way that I could get in touch with any of the old band members please let me know!
Here’s what I do know…

They released two albums (“Chemical MasterPeace” [2001] and “Rain On Down” [2004]).

These guys were in the band: Shawn Blake (vocals), Chase Robinson (guitars), DJ Fatheree (Bass)… and Terry Birmingham, Gabe Hollis and Jon Mosley were on the first album.

By the way, it doesn’t matter what year it is – “Beth Keeps Calling” still rocks!
