Desolation Remains – “As the Cities Burn”
Desolation Remains hail from the North West of England and describe themselves as a band with “a brutal no nonsense sound designed to pummel the audience into submission”.
On “As the Cities Burn”, Desolation Remains have taken a decent-sized slab of Thrash and mixed with some brutality and killer riffs. The tracks here have left me no doubt that the band are completely capable of pummeling the audience into submission… and then some!
This collection kicks off with “As the Cities Burn”, a great little introduction track that leads into “Firefight” – a track which, when played at a loud volume, could have been designed to make your ears bleed. “Brutality” does exactly what it says on the tin and makes me want to throw myself (or other people) around the room. I love the sheer heaviness of this track, especially at around the 2 minute mark – fuckin’ superb! You’ve got to listen to this one LOUD! It’s not background music by any stretch of the imagination!
For some reason “Eyes Stitched Shut” took me a couple of listens to get into… but, once I did get into it, I realised it’s the perfect track to bang your head to. “Psykosis” is my current favourite from Desolation Remains. It’s got everything you could possibly want, all thrown together in a handy little package. A package that likely contains a strange Gremlin-like creature that’s just waiting for you to open said package so that it can rip your face off. Which is nice… and exactly what we’re looking for here.
If “Psykosis” is my favourite, then “Silence” is a very close second. It’s a fantastic way to finish things off and the tempo changes really help to keep things interesting.
If you haven’t had a chance to listen to Desolation Remains yet, then I strongly suggest that you remedy that straight away. To help you out, I’ve provided a link below

I think illegal downloading is fine if you download just to listen, and if you like it, you buy it. If you don’t like it, delete it off your computer.
