Hemoptysis – “Misanthropic Slaughter”
I thought I’d squeeze in one last review before 2010 finishes…
My first encounter with Hemoptysis came when I reviewed their EP, “Who Needs A Shepherd?” quite some time ago (I can’t remember when that was exactly, but it was before I switched this website over to WordPress). Anyway, back then I believe I said something along the lines of “The musicianship and the way that the songs have been crafted is amazing…Five tracks of superbly addictive metal.” - so it’s clear from the start of this review that “Misanthropic Slaughter” has some pretty big shoes to fill.
Have Hemoptysis managed to deliver the goods? Hell yes! I thought the band’s EP was good, but “Misanthropic Slaughter” wipes the floor with it! If “Who Needs a Shepherd?” is the equivalent to winning the lottery, then “Misanthropic…” is the equivalent to winning the lottery and then finding out that you have super-powers.
Once again, the band strive to amaze and astound the listener with displays of awe-inspiring musicianship. Killer guitar solos slice through the mix and add additional strength to already well-written songs. The end result is a Thrash Metal album (with Death Metal tendencies) that will leave you with whiplash and blood running out of your ears. And, as I’m sure you are no doubt aware, I mean that in the best possible way.
The only problem I have is not with the album, but rather with the band. More specifically, the name. Hemoptysis? Guys, seriously, I need a name that I can easily say and spell after a few beers and an evening in the pit!
This album is due to be released in the first half of 2011 – do yourself a favour and buy it!

You give me a stage and you will see the difference between Nokturnel and most other bands.
— Tom Stevens, Nokturnel, http://bit.ly/Injd6yI am personally still a CD buyer and probably always will be. I like having the physical artwork in my hands. Mp3’s to me are not very attractive because I feel I’m not getting my money’s worth.
— Will, Vesperian Sorrow, http://bit.ly/Hx69gWI think more bands should prioritize exposure over sales. The more exposure, the more sales. Be it ticket sales, album sales, or merch sales. That’s the way I see it.
— Necrol, Secrets She Kept, http://bit.ly/HEaNHXThe underlying theme is through the discovery of truth we find ultimate hopelessness. Each song explores death in a different context and theme.
— Voldamares, Eclipse Eternal, http://bit.ly/Hv2kYEWe don’t adhere to any specific writing style. If something works, it gets improved, then it gets used!
— Gideon, Crow Black Sky, http://bit.ly/InizpyCryptic Throne is a dark shamanic ritual. An entity which exists for the Primordial Thursian Worship of Dark Germanic Heathenism.
— Abyssous, Cryptic Throne, http://bit.ly/IlJsYs...so now we’re thinking about the next step. And don’t worry. When we hit the road, I guarantee we won’t miss the UK!
— Damyen, Northern Plague, http://bit.ly/JuT8SgThe lyrics are mainly based in fantasy, and try to convey a larger concept, peppered with metaphors that hint at some very personal events and feelings.
— Ruptured Souls, The Furious Horde, http://bit.ly/HyfPUxEven when all seems fine Plaag will still be around to do a little tormenting here and there...
— Somber von Plaag, Plaag, http://bit.ly/IvTyW2I think illegal downloading is fine if you download just to listen, and if you like it, you buy it. If you don’t like it, delete it off your computer.
