Depending on how superstitious you are, Friday the 13th will either have you looking over your shoulder every two minutes to check that something spooky isn’t going to happen… Or it will be like any other Friday where you’ll be (if you’re anything like me) sat at work counting down the minutes until it’s time to leave the office and have a beer (if you’re buying, I’ll have a Tyskie – thanks!). However, VERKRAG has decided to spice up this particular Friday the 13th with a fantastically evil sounding present…
VERKRAG – a solo project of Anton van Niekerk (also in Wrath Passion) – is a Black and Death Metal melting pot that combines horrific and atmospheric sounds into its body. Lyrically speaking, Verkrag covers all of the stuff that your common or garden variety deranged serial killer contemplates – torture, cannibalism, necrophilia, etc. Wholesome stuff! I feel I should point out that VERKRAG doesn’t promote these activities – it’s just fiction. I highly doubt any readers of Loucifer Speaks are that stupid, but just in case someone has stumbled across this site by accident and now thinks that we’re all insane homicidal maniacs, I thought I’d make a point of it. Can’t be too careful. You know what some people are like…
VERKRAG’s debut album, “13 Victims”, was self-financed and self-released on 13th December 2009, and now – to celebrate the fact that it’s Friday the 13th – it has been made available as a 100% FREE download. A couple of days ago, Verkrag whetted our insatiable appetites for this gift, by making his superb version of “Sweet DreAms (are made of this)” available for download… and I’ve been longing for the album ever since.
