After 3 singles, 3 EPs and 3 years together, rockers Sons of Beaches have decided to call it a day. The band met on Tuesday last week to discuss their future and they all decided to move on. SOB’s official statement is as follows:
“We, the members of Sons of Beaches, would like to make it known that we have split. We held a meeting last week to decide the bands future and we all agreed that it was best to put SOB to bed. There have been no fall outs and it is in fact a very amicable split. We are simply all pulling in different directions from an artistic standpoint and we felt it was best we all followed our respective passions.We have had a fantastic run and wish to thank all the fans and everyone who has helped and followed Sons of Beaches over the last 3 years. We hope you will continue to support us in our final show at the O2 Academy in September.”
The band will be playing a farewell show at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on Saturday 10th September. Tickets are available from their online store at sonsofbeaches.bigcartel.com and are priced at £11 (this includes entry to the venue and coach travel from Kidderminster).
All of the band members have decided to continue with music in some form. Richie (drums) and Gaz (bass) are planning to put together a Funk/Hip Hop band and Carl (vocals) and Dan (guitars) will be working together in a new band. According to Carl, the band will move in a different direction to SOB, but its roots will still firmly be in Rock. They are also planning an acoustic project.
Each band member has issued a short statement in regards to the split and the future:
Dan Holloway:
“I think it is with a heavy heart that we all had to admit the time had come to part company from a band perspective.The fact that it was done as four guys meeting in a pub over a beer kinda sums up our relationship. Still great friends, but unfortunately times change, ideas change and we as people change. My 3 years with Sons of Beaches have been the most hardworking, enjoyable and rewarding i’ve spent with any band, and for that i say thanks to all members past and present.
A special mention to all who have supported us over the years, without you we wouldn’t have got half as far as we did. I hope Rich and Gaz continue in their musical pursuit as they are both really “special” guys. (Interpret that how you will
))) The one thing we can all take from this is we have all gained 3 life long friends, thanks guys. Now to those of you who read this i hope to do something in the future that will drag you all out again for a good sing song!

“Well its been emotional,We’ve had some great moments in this band but all good things come to an end. My personal highlights include playing The Cavern Club In Liverpool (twice) and Glastonbudget!Thanks to everyone who has supported us, our adventures wouldn’t of been half the fun without you guys. I would like to say thankyou to Dan, for continually pushing for perfection though never really getting it. Its been a privilege to play with you.
Next I should probably thank Gaz (not sure why?), whom i will be embarking on a new project with. Watch this space.
Finally this farewell is a bit emotional. Carl has been there with me from the very start of SOB. I grew up having Carl as my frontman and singer and have spent many years behind the drum kit with just his ass in view. We’ve seen members come and go but we’ve always stuck together.
I would like to wish Dan and Carl the very best for their plans. We walk away from SOB with great memories. It ended as it started, in a pub over a beer.”
Gaz Webster:
“I would like to thank the guys for giving me the opportunity to be in this great band. Its been an experience. Thankyou to the fans who really took me in when I joined.
Now on a more serious note. I have great tidings for all you boyos out there! The rhythm section are staying together to form a strong alliance and the worlds most awesome band!

“Thankyou to everyone who has spent money, time and effort on this band. If you ever bought a ticket, poster cd, digital download or just stood in the corner of the bar with your arms folded, we appreciated it. I can only ask that you join us one last time in Birmingham’s O2 Academy, for what promises to be the best show of our lives. One last adventure left guys!
I wanna say thanks to Gaz, who is quite possibly the greatest bass player the world has ever seen! He really should join Tenacious D! No, Seriously!
