I am currently smiling like a deranged person. This isn’t because I’ve finally lost the plot, or because I’ve had too many cans of Monster Energy Drink today (speaking of which, if the lovely people at Monster would like to sponsor me, I like the Low Carb one best ;) … it’s gotta be worth a try!) – nope, it’s neither of those things. The reason for my ever-so-slightly disturbing grin is because I’ve just seen the cover art for December Flower’s new album. Not only is it a thing of absolute beauty, it also holds a very special meaning. It can only mean that the release date for album can’t be too far away. I’ve had a hankering for some new December Flower stuff since I first got a copy of their demo “Moloch”. If you like good quality melodeath, you’re going to be as obsessed with these guys as I am. Anyway, that’s enough from me… below you will see the cover art for December Flower’s forthcoming album called “When All Life Ends…”.

The following message was taken from the band’s official Facebook page:

This is the cover artwork of our upcoming release “When All Life Ends…”.
Thanks to Marc of ArtWars|Mediadesign for his awesome work.
“When All Life Ends” contains eleven tracks of unique Melodic Death Metal Art.

Metalwork now open

On September 12, 2011, in Featured, Let's Go Viral, Metalwork, News, by Loucifer

Over the last couple of years, I’ve dabbled with the idea of having a Social Network for Loucifer Speaks. I had a bit of a play with SocialGo, but decided that it didn’t really suit our needs… now I’m using BuddyPress (which makes sense since we use WordPress to power this site! Work started on this new Social Network – called “Metalwork” – back in November of last year. Due to work commitments and other stuff, I put it on the backburner for quite a few months, but I have now revived it! Woo hoo!

Metalwork (click here to find out why it’s called Metalwork… and some other stuff) isn’t here to replace existing networks such as Facebook, Twitter or Google+ (we will still be using those!), instead it’s meant to provide a place for metalheads to (virtually) hangout, share videos, promote bands and gigs, etc. It also isn’t here to replace our forum. Some of us like forums, some of us like social networks… at Loucifer Speaks we like to cater to all :)

Bands are welcome to sign up and promote themselves. All profiles are able to house a music player – such as those from Reverbnation, Soundcloud and BandCamp. Click here to find out more about this feature.

Metalwork is still a work in progress and I expect it always will be. However, you are all invited to join and please feel free to invite your friends along too – the more the merrier. There’s a number of features available to use already – you can have your own photo albums, post YouTube videos, add music to your profile, ‘like’ stuff, join and create Groups (and post in their forums/discussion boards), post and invite people to events and post blogs.

Eventually (in the not-too-distant future), the design and layout of this place will compliment the design and layout of Metalwork. I’m hoping to have this in place within the next couple of weeks. Once this happens, a permanent link to the network will be added to the site. Until then, I guess it’s our little secret! :P

The site is also optimised for many mobile phone browsers. It should work fine for iPhone and most Android phones (it works great on my HTC) and, in theory, it should work for most BlackBerry phones. I haven’t had the opportunity to test this properly though.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Another Hell – “Drowning in Dirt”

On September 12, 2011, in CD / MP3 / EP, Featured, Review, by Loucifer

Are you in the mood for some Thrash? How about some FREE Thrash? Then look no further than Another Hell. This bunch of Thrash-tastic (yes, I did just say that) Swedes are offering EP as a free download – all you’ve gotta do is send them an an email and they’ll send the download link your way. Click here for mre info. Marvellous!

If you’re still unsure about whether you want to take a risk on the EP (although I have no idea why you’re being indecisive – it’s FREE dammit!) then I thought I’d throw in my two cents (or pence… since I’m a Brit) on it.

“Drowning in Dirt” is a collection of 5 songs that won’t change the world, but they will make you bang your head. When listening to this EP you know that you’re not treading on new ground – Another Hell aren’t taking you to a place that no metal fan has gone before – but they are taking you to a place that a lot of metal fans like to go. A place where riffs are able to run free, a place where you can headbang until you give yourself a hefty case of whiplash and a place where you can sink a few beers. This is like Metal Utopia.

Another Hell cite their influences as Metallica and Fear Factory and, while those influences are apparent here, I also get the odd taste of Pantera and something altogether heavier (a nice little Death Metal flavour floats through the mix throughout). These guys pay homage to their roots, but they also make a point of making the genre their own.

“Redemption” kicks things off in a superbly heavy fashion, but – for me – “Last Choking Breath” is when things really get going. The driving rhythm behind this track makes it ridiculously addictive. This is currently my favourite track here.
“Face The Consequence” feels like it was made to be played live. As soon as the track starts I can easily imagine myself at a festival, banging my head with 1,000 other metalheads while Another Hell blast through this track. “Watch It All Burn” didn’t captivate me immediately, but I did find myself liking more and more with repeated listens. The EP closes with “Navigate To Nowhere” – a track that almost takes the crown from “Last Choking Breath” as my favourite track here. Almost. It’s a beast of a track that screams for your attention.

Give it a go! What have you got to lose?

Several years of sharing musical ideas and visions have finally borne fruit with BLODARV front man and founder HUGIN joining forces with ELENYX (COMBATH) on the upcoming album from her NÅE project. In what has become a Nordic alliance, Norway’s ELENYX, who founded NÅE, and Denmark’s HUGIN are being joined on the album, which will be called “Heksevind”, by Sweden’s IT (ABRUPTUM, VONDUR, OPTHALAMIA). With ELENYX herself working on composition, lyrics, and vocals and playing various instruments on the album, Hugin is expected to provide vocals and lyrics while IT will participate both musically and with written material. The exact details of the collaboration will be known as the work progresses.

NÅE, which in the Old Norwegian language means “corpse” or “the dead”, is an experimental project based on mind images and visions. Using elements of Black Metal, ELENYX creates dark and demonical ambient pieces that are filled with visions of ghosts and are swirling with sinister dark tales, and the band’s first album, the 14-track demo “Nåedroem”, will be released on Concept Machine. “Heksevind”, which will be recorded both at BLODARV’s HammerArt and Studios on the Danish island of Bornholm and at ELENYX’s own recording facilities in Oslo, takes as its theme occultism and witchcraft, and the summoning of the dark magic that lives inside some of us. Demo material from “Nåedroem” can be heard at reverbnation.com/nåe.

HUGIN himself, who has been out of action for a few months following an accident that necessitated extensive surgery to his jaw, is now fit and able to resume performing live again, with his return to the stage set for the 26th November when BLODARV will support ENDSTILLE at The Rock in Copenhagen. He is currently working on the next BLODARV album, and in the interim the band will appear on the “Shadows of Tragedy” split CD with ACEDI, GRIMLAIR, BLACK HATE & NOCTURNAL DEPRESSION, which is due for release in September 2011 on Self Mutilation Services. More information about BLODARV can be found at myspace.com/blodarv.

The video below is a collage of photos of BLODARV in concert in May of 2011 with the track “Natteskarn” from the “Civitas Diaboli” album.
