A new website is currently being constructed with an integrated online store for pre-orders of both the album and the LAND OF THE EVENING STAR t-shirts.

Focus now turns to rehearse for the two upcoming live shows in Calgary. The line-up and I greatly anticipate rehearsing together again, as we have not played together since January 2009.

That demo impressed me greatly, so when I discovered that a follow up was due to be released, I jumped at the chance to pre-order it.

In many ways “Those Who Will [...]]]> I discovered Slovakia’s Aeon Winds last year, when their “Aeon” demo fell into my possession (read my review here). That demo impressed me greatly, so when I discovered that a follow up was due to be released, I jumped at the chance to pre-order it.

In many ways “Those Who Will Remain Silent Forever” continues where “Aeon” left off. Symphonic Black Metal is the order of the day and it’s played with talent and conviction. To listen to this album is to journey in Aeon Winds’ world. With tracks like “Aeons of Crime”, “Thorns of Destiny” and “Black Spell of Destruction” pouring through your speakers, there is very little use for the outside world. One moment your surrounded by a cloak of mystical and mysterious wonder and then the next your transported to somewhere far more foreboding with harsh winters and unseen terrors. Aeon Winds certainly know how to take the listener on a journey.

In my review of “Aeon” I compared Aeon Winds to bands such as Dimmu Borgir and Vesperian Sorrow. While this is still true to a degree, I’ve found that “Those Who Will Remain Silent Forever” is a much more unique effort. After only one demo and one album, it’s amazing to think that Aeon Winds have already found ‘their sound’. As well as fans of the previous bands, fans of acts such as Dark Forest (Canada) and Kampfar may also find something to hook them in here.

While every track on this album is worthy of comment (although I don’t want to go into too much detail at the moment – it will be more rewarding for you to discover these gems yourself), one track that has particularly grabbed my attention is “Nechcenna Pravda”. When it comes to tempo and atmosphere, this track has hearty doses of everything. It travels between being a full-on Black Metal track, to suddenly switching to something beautiful and almost ethereal. It’s an average length track (clocking in at around 4 minutes), but it has an epic quality. If I had to listen to this song every day for a year, I would not complain and I would not get bored.

Overall, “Those Who Will Remain Silent Forever” is a very solid effort. It shows progression from the previous release and leaves me wanting to hear more.

According to the band’s Facebook page, “SCHWARZ-KARG-KALT”, will contain “the darkest songs THORNGOTH have written so far. Yet it also takes THORNGOTH’s style a step further into a more progressive type of black metal”.

“Lament” is the new EP by depressive US black metal band Obolus and is currently available for FREE download directly from The Flenser HERE.


This is the mysterious black metal band’s second release and expands upon the gazed-out harshness of their debut demo.
The 2011 Obolus demo was previously released by Sunyata Recordings and will be reissued by the Bay Area label Merz Tapes. That recording demonstrates a supreme balance of harsh 90’s black metal and somber California depressive gaze. The release deservingly rounded out a number of year-end lists.

We encourage you to FREELY download and SHARE this new recording. This is a limited pre-listing and the vinyl will be purchasable soon. If you enjoy this recording please buy the vinyl. No strangers to the Asian metal scene, Absence of the Sacred have been carving a name for themselves ever since the release of their debut album “Atrocities That Birthed Abominations” in 2006 to numerous positive reviews and accolades. The band quickly followed the success of their debut album with “Era of the Apostate”, ABSENCE OF THE SACRED’s sophomore album, released in 2009.

Just like its predecessor, “Era of the Apostate” proved to be a lesson in executing Melodic Death Metal with an uncompromising attitude. ABSENCE OF THE SACRED’s latest and third album, COME HITHER O HERALD OF DEATH, is probably a great testimony to the band’s ability to evolve and sustain executing Death Metal with a melodic progressive touch. The album also features the much-sought after Kevin Talley of DAATH, SIX FEET UNDER & MISERY INDEX behind the skins.

Mike Priest has described COME HITHER O HERALD OF DEATH as being the musical epitome of what ABSENCE OF THE SACRED has done in the course of their seven-year existence:

“The music in this album is best described as being raw and aggressive Death Metal honed with progressive touches and technical melodic sensibilities. We did not want the production of this album to be polished and sterile like most modern releases as we want to keep the sense of a musical record being a musical record, not a Pro-Tools generated record where everything sounds too perfect and straight-forward. We can safely say that “Come Hither O Herald Of Death” is the heaviest release and has a more mature songwriting approach in comparison to our last two records.”

The album release will be followed by a series of shows in support of the album.
