Canada’s masters and wizards of folk-progressive metal fusion, Scythia, have set aside their time hunting trolls and have come to the rescue of [...]]]> Not a local gig (well, not for me, anyway – it’s in Canada.. it’s a bit of a trek)… but this was too good not to post. Scythia – we salute you!

Canada’s masters and wizards of folk-progressive metal fusion, Scythia, have set aside their time hunting trolls and have come to the rescue of the Richmond Animal Protection Society for a benefit concert to help raise funds for the RAPS two animal shelters in dire need of supplies (you can view RAP’s wishlist here).

Scythia’s vocalist/ guitarist Dave Khan gave the following comment:

“Scythia is stoked to rock out for an honourable cause like animals. A huge inspiration for our breed of folk metal is having a symbiosis with animals and nature… Especially bears, but dogs and cats are awesome as well. We are also stoked about the killer line up, we have played with all of these bands before and believe that each and every band on this bill are top notch musicians capable of delivering incredible performances.”

With support from local Vancouver speed thrash metal titans Cradle To Grave, power metallers Aeterna and Nanaimo, BC’s Viking warriors Eye of Odin, Scythia along with event organizer and Oboe of death player Morgan Zentner of Aesir Promotions are conquering higher ground for this great cause to help our furry companions in their time of need.

Comment from Morgan Zentner, the event’s promoter:

“As the promoter and creator of this event, I am proud to say that Aesir Promotions will be putting on a show to help support such a worthy cause. As an animal owner and lover, I feel that abandoned pets are easily over looked and I was very happy to find the Richmond Animal Protection Society, which is a no kill shelter. We have support from bands all over BC and Alberta donating merch for raffle prizes and the support from the metal community in Vancouver has been fantastic. All of the performers for the show are of high caliber and we are all looking forward to helping out our furry friends.”

Also for your viewing pleasure! One of Vancouver’s best belly dancers, the radiant Mahafsoun will be joining Scythia on stage for a memorable performance.

12 Bands in total will be playing on the 15th July for 3 slots at Bloodstock Open Air Festival consisting of the split below:
3* Bands who have won their local qualifying rounds… from our filter regions (See Below)
3* Bands Shortlisted from the Bloodline Series Compilation CD’s will perform to prove their live abilities
6* Bands from the three main regions (Kent, Essex, London) where the 2 highest **Band Quest finishers will be offered slots

* = 1 slot @ Bloodstock will be awarded for each of these sections

“If The stars were to align just right, and the conditions have been met, and the offering of a stage drenched in Metal History is provided, then we are set to come together, for The Perfect Storm” Adam Fillary – Band Quest’s creator.

Bringing together the absolute best of the Underground Music scene has always been our passion. THIS EVENT is THE very best we can do for the bands and their fans – So in Conjunction with Band Quest & Bloodstock’s Metal 2 The Masses campaign & with NO obligation to bands in terms of ticket sales – just an amazing day with everyone pulling in 1 direction.

The day will host 12 bands with an exemplary guest headliner (TBC).

**Filter Regions**
We are looking for bands to represent their local areas – We can create a filter region based on 12 Bands in a region. These regions are made of large towns in the peripheral regions around London and down to the South Coast where other Metal 2 The Masses campaigns are not running. We are looking at, but are not limited to, Brighton, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Stevenage, Oxford, Cambridge, & Luton – If you are from these areas get in touch through info@bandquestuk.com. You will be asked to play 1 x All-Dayer consisting of 3 or 4 Qualifying rounds and 1 regional final (between 3 or 4 bands) from there the winner will play at the Underworld at the Perfect Storm.

**Bloodline CD’s**
53 Bands have put their music into this initiative which is designed to raise £2000 for charity, place 1 bands to bloodstock and help promote the best of the UK’s underground scene. The CDs can be purchased at all our events and online – see the CD’s here: http://www.bandquestuk.com/cd-compilations/ 3 bands will be asked to perform at this event to show what they can do live! At least 1 band will play Bloodstock from the CD’s, having shown their skills at The Perfect Storm.

**Band Quest feat. Metal 2 The Masses (Kent, Essex and Sussex)**
As traditionally the strongest regions of our campaigns, we’ll ensure that not only will 1 band play Bloodstock Open Air festival from each of these regions, but 2 of the high flying bands at the regions finals will be given a Day & Night to remember by being granted a place at the Perfect Storm Event. At least 1 band from these 6 bands will play at Bloodstock in 2012. The two highest bands who have not already been granted a slot at Bloodstock will be asked to play at the Underworld to present themselves on one of London’s most prestigious venues. To see our basis for promoting these bands through Band Quest see www.bandquestuk.com This band will play 3 Local Events between Feb and May to qualify for The Perfect Storm

Tickets will be available through the bands, the venues and from Unified Sounds. We are going to be setting up some exceptional incentives for ticket holders so keep an eye out.

There are times when just for the sheer sake of it a whole bunch of people come together for one day that will live in the memory forever. We hope we have created the very conditions for this event.

One of the most unusual and exciting metal tours of the last few years is foreshadowed: Bethlehem, Secrets Of The Moon, and Dordeduh will embark on a joint concert tour of Europe.

Secrets of the Moon

Bethlehem are legend. This band was founded in 1991 and, with their album “Dark Metal,” they invented the homonymous musical sub-genre, while shaping the field of Suicidal/Depressive Black Metal with their records “Dictius Te Necare” and “S.U.i.Z.i.D.” Ever since, Bethlehem have been one of the primary inspirations for countless bands to follow in their wake. With a new album in tow, Bethlehem now will embark on the first-ever tour in the band’s history – expect some historically charged performances!

Founded in 1995, Secrets Of The Moon are amongst the ‘old hands’ of the German Black Metal scene. Ever since, the group is one of the more serious, most expressive, and most spiritual of their genre, giving fresh impetus to others as well. Their excellent reputation as a live act will be vindicated once more on this tour, and with the songs of their new album “Seven Bells” – co-mixed among others by Tom G. Warrior (Celtic Frost, Triptykon) –, they will be celebrating the darkness at the end of the tunnel more convincingly than ever.
