Billy Rebel are a strange entity... and one I wasn't sure that I would like. The combination of Metal, Punk and 50s Rockabilly was one that I thought might be hard to swallow. After all, I usually prefer my Metal to be more... well... Metally.
Usually anyway.
The tracks on the Billy Rebel MySpace are strangely addictive. The spooky/comedy aspect to the songs teases a smile from my lips and the intros to both "Inner Animal" (wolves howling) and "Sinister Sister" are fantastic. I wasn?t as taken with "Sinister Sister" as I was by "Inner Animal" (my favourite track out of the four!), this may because it moved more into Punk territory than Metal. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, it's just not this reviewer's cup of tea. With that said, I really enjoyed the very punky "Ghouls Down In China". The more I listen to these tracks, the more I like them - this band has certainly grown on me.
Billy Rebel are currently touring in and around the London area and I am compelled to go and check them out.
If you like your music to be doused in humour and a little bit spooky, then these guys are definitely for you.
