This three track EP first reached my ears due to some conversations on MySpace with one of the Imindain guys.
"The Buried Room" sets the mood off nicely, with it's slow heavy riffs. Clocking in at over 10 mins you certainly get your money's worth! The thunder at the very start is an excellent touch and even after this long track you are still left wanting more.
"Black Water" is my favourite track from this EP. The piano and guitar combined with the 'marching' drums at the beginning really set this one up. It moves along at a slightly faster pace that the previous track, but still manages to retain that overbearing feeling of doom and gloom. The mixture of spoken clean vocals and the dirty 'extreme' vocals is a magnificent touch here which works so well. Oddly enough the spoken vocals remind me of something Akercocke would do - which is definitely a good thing in my book! The screamed vocals at around 3mins in are really haunting and add yet another dimension. Despite it's length and relatively slow tempo, this track is strangely catchy.
The EP closes with the beautiful "This Empty Flesh" (surprisingly my second favourite on the EP). The structure of this one makes it feel more like a traditional song than the others and the use of clean vocals certainly aids this.
Imindain are that dark cloud that hangs over your head. They're the rain on your window. They're on the net, so go check 'em out!
