I recently went to a pretty bad gig Death Metal gig and I was almost concerned about listening to this album from Spain's Lightning. Would it reaffirm my faith in the genre? Or would I be left feeling cold?

The answer comes in the form of how much I banged my head along to this - and I banged my head lots. Lightning aren't breaking any boundaries with "Filthy Human Beings", but who cares when it's this f**kin' good? The general pace and overall feel of the tracks reminded me of the original Death Metal bands such as Obituary. This is hardly surprising since I've found out that Lightning have been around for years. In fact, they were formed in the early '90s and have released a total of 5 CDs.

My favourite track from "Filthy Human Beings" at the moment is definitely "Dried Eyes". The whole thing has an incredibly dirty vibe to it and you can't help but move when it's on... much to the concern to people on the bus when I listen to this album on the way to work. Other tracks that are definitely worth a listen are "Predatory Gaze", "Dreadful Heavenly Body" and "Bleak Lands".

"Filthy Human Beings" is perfect for anyone that loves old school Death Metal. Check it out and raise your horns!!!
