There’s nothing like a nice slice of extreme metal mayhem to raise a smile on my face… and Plutonium have had me grinning all day.
Plutonium have thrown in all kinds of influences and this is what makes “One Size Fits All” so special. It doesn’t seem to be confined to genre. It’s Black Metal, but there’s also a taste of Death Metal, even a pinch of the Industrial (take note of “A Child Called Shit”) and a huge slab of a sense of humour (well, the album cover made me laugh!). I find it difficult to pigeon-hole the band… and I like it!
The melodies hit all the right spots and the lead guitar seems to slice through the mix at just the right moments. The lyrics are, from what I’ve read, incredibly dark and brooding and, at most points, pretty clever. At this moment in time, one of my favourite sections comes from “Motionless Torrent” - “Take a look in the mirror / Tell the judge what you see / Is the looking glass reflecting a mind you consider ‘free’?”. This track also provides us with an excellent headbanging opportunity at around the 4min 10secs mark.
Other stand-out tracks include “Victory Mansions”, “The New Consciousness” and “One Size Fits All” (I really love the riff on this one!).
Overall, “One Size Fits All” is a fantastic album – At this point I actually cannot find a fault with it.
