Review

Ancestral Legacy I have Cazza from Femme Metal (and, of course, the Loucifer Speaks forum) to thank for aiding my discovery of this band. I listened to one track from the band's MySpace before buying this EP and was immediately impressed. This is a pretty heavy and brutal record that is interlaced with a delicate beauty courtesy of the vocals from Elin Anita Omholt. The balance between the harsh (extreme) vocals and the clean feminine ones is just right and this is something that many bands fail to do. Often with bands with a female singer, I find that the female vocals seem like they've been added in as an after thought, but not here. Ancestral Legacy seem to know when they need to be heavy and when they need to chill out. No matter what the general feel of the track though, melody is always used to it's optimum degree.

For some reason part of "Wordless History" reminds me a bit of the music from "28 Weeks Later". Have a good, careful listen to it and you might understand why. Just try and imagine it with no vocals.... I think its the way that it builds up. Or, it may just be me being nuttier than squirrel shit... Either way it's bloody good.

I would give you a list of 'recommended tracks' but, since I like all 5 of them, that seems pretty pointless. This is an exceptional EP and I can't wait to hear more from this band. This is Black/Goth Metal executed perfectly - I'm holding off from giving it the full 10 since I want a full-length! Haha!
