Review

A Road Eternal North Carolina has thrown quite a few metal bands my way recently and A Road Eternal are one of them. My first listen came when I was directed to their MySpace page and something about that page really caught my attention. These days many bands seem to be focused on style over substance. Their websites and MySpace pages may look fancy, but the music often fails to live up to the expectation. A Road Eternal, on the other hand, are completely different. Their MySpace page isn't much to look at - it's functional, but it won't be winning any design awards any time soon - but the music is instantly accessible.

The main trouble with this CD is that I have no idea what the track listing is, so I've taken to refering to each song as a number. The band's mixture of Metal and Hardcore is delivered with an incredible amount of energy and aggression - and it's near impossible not to get caught up in it. The production here varies from track to track - some are brilliant, while some sound muddy. A Road Eternal is likely to draw comparisons to bands like Job For A Cowboy, which will be a blessing to some and a turn off for others. I never got excited about JFAC, but ARE have that certain something that makes me want to listen to them again and again.

A Road Eternal still have a huge journey ahead of them (excuse the pun), but with the tracks on this CD they've taken the first few vital steps.
