Partenos Petras The first thing I noticed about this album was, funnily enough, the cover art. While it did seem to be a little clichéd, I couldn't help but get the feeling that I was in for a treat... and I certainly was...

Partenos Petras play that perfect mix of Death Metal with more than a tinge of Black Metal that I've come to love. Usually I'd expect this winning combination from Poland (check out Devilish Impressions, Crionics and Vesania to get an idea of what I mean) and so, to find out this band is from Italy, is a bit of a surprise. It’s good to see that my favourite bands now have a bit of healthy competition!

Partenos Petras have succeeded in making a memorable album and appear to understand the importance of a good riff, groove, repeated vocal/lyric and guitar solo (check out "Terrorist Metal" for the latter). I'd highly recommend "Dominus et Deus", "So Dark the Con of Man", "Terrorist Metal" and "The End Of Monotheist" (this track has a fantastic intro – check it out and you'll know what I mean). Even the intro track and "(Outro) Nautonier" have an incredibly high degree of quality to them.

Overall, Partenos Petras have provided me with a marvellously dark surprise and I look forward to hearing more from them in the future. The only thing that will let this album down is that simply not enough people will find out about it.
