I suffer with a bit of internal conflict when I listen to this album. Musically, I quite like it, but for some reason I just can't get along with the vocals. Perhaps they'll grow on me over time, but the question is... Will I continue to listen to this album if it didn't grab me straight away? I must admit that (generally) I prefer vocals to be a little rougher, with more attitude. They don't necessarily have to be extreme or growled, but they do need to stand out from the crowd and make me want to listen to them again and again.
As I said, musically this album isn't bad. Songs like "Go Fast (Turn Left)", "Someone, Something" and "Thoughts of a Wanderer" are pretty catchy... it's just that they'd really benefit from another singer.
I don't want to seem like I'm unfairly laying into Before We Forget's singer, but if it ain't my cup of tea, it ain't my cup of tea. Sorry dudes! Perhaps I'm missing the point, but this one really isn't for me.
