Destruction

I'd been looking forward to this gig since meeting Schmier back in August. The band had completely blown me away with their latest album "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N", Schmier had just completed the first video interview for Loucifer Speaks and somehow the excitment for this gig continued to build in the months to come.

Was the gig all that I'd built it up to be? OH YES! ...and more! The band powered through a long set (I believe they started at about 9.20pm and were still on at 11pm!) and managed to mix in a fantastic selection of classic songs and newer tracks.

The newer tracks sounded great and the crowd lapped them up hungrily. The tracks from the new album did stand out from the set (perhaps this was because I was listening out for them?) and they seemed to have a really fresh and modern sound to them, but still managing to retain that classic Destruction vibe.

A couple of pits were started, but the crowd was still friendly enough to leave you alone if you just wanted to bang your head, or simply observe the band. Definitely one of the friendliest gigs I've been to in a long time and I also met some great people there.

Destruction proved that they are still relevant in today's music scene and are not a bunch of has-beens from the 1980s as some may think. Seriously, if you fall into that category, check out the new album and / or catch them live. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I'll definitely be seeing Destruction again!
