Interview

I recently found out about a power metal band from the Ukraine called Epinikion and while I was listening to (and reviewing) their self-titled album I started to wonder "Who is this band?". So, I did what I normally do in these situations - I asked them to answer some questions!
Lou: How long has the band been together and who is in the band?
Epinikion: The band been together for one year. The band's core consists of three people, experienced musicians and good old friends.
Lou: Have there been any line up changes within the band since the beginning?
Epinikion: There were no line up changes.
Lou: Where does the name Epinikion come from?
Epinikion: "Epinikion" means the song of victory in Ancient Greek.
Lou: How long did it take to write and record the "Epinikion" album?
Epinikion: It took a year approximately.
Lou: Was the album fun to record? Where there any difficulties?
Epinikion: It's even better to say that it was a great experience, than fun. Sure there were some difficulties, but all of them were easily managed.
Lou: Which is your favourite track from the album and why?
Epinikion: We love all of them.
Lou: The album has a somewhat "herioc" feel to it. Would you agree with this and are there any points that you would like to say about the album?
Epinikion: Yes, we agree with you. The album's conception was taken as "heroic" from the very beginning. It consists of some legends from the most heroic period history of our country, rewritten and turned into songs.
Lou: The cover-art on the album is amazing - in fact it's the best I've seen this year! Who designed it and did they also work on the images on the website as well?
Epinikion: Thank you for the compliment. In fact there was no designer. The cover art and portraits of band members were painted by talented and experienced ukrainian painter Alexey Buryak. His wife Natalya also created the dragon logo for us. They both are really great artists and I hope that our work with them will be continued.
Lou: What does the image on the cover represent?
Epinikion: It's the key to the main idea of the album. It's mystery and message. You have to listen and, maybe, think a little to resolve it.
Lou: Have you got any other albums? If so, where can we buy them from?
Epinikion: No, it's our first album and you can download it for free from our site at least.
Lou: You all seem to be fantastic musicians. How long have you been playing your instruments for and who are your biggest influences?
Epinikion: Thank you again. It was some ten years of playing and studying music for each of us. There was many influences for us but the main ones are: Judas Priest, Ritchie Blackmore's projects, classical music composers and lots of existing power metal bands.
Lou: Do you have any plans to tour in the near future?
Epinikion: Definitely yes but for now we are busy a little with our next album creating to think about it in details.
Lou: Are there any bands that you would like to tour with?
Epinikion: Judas Priest mainly. Of course others are welcomed as well.
With best regards,
Epinikion.
