Rick Perry returned to the presidential campaign trail on Sunday with a fire-and-brimstone rallying cry to evangelical
Christians whose allegiance in the South Carolina primary will be a pivotal force in the Republican nomination race.
Opening a two-week tour across the state where he launched his campaign in August and now hopes to revive it, the Texas
governor invoked his Christian faith throughout his remarks to supporters at a diner in Spartenburg, a bastion of religious
conservatives in upstate South Carolina.Perry also adapted his Washington-outsider message to appeal to the religious conservatives who will dominate South Carolina
’s Jan. 21 primary, saying he would take a “sledgehammer” to the nation’s insular ways.I got all the people that love me
that I need –- her, Jesus and my family,” Perry said, gesturing toward his wife, Anita.
“When you find that peace from God, you stop worrying about what the critics say,” Perry said.Perry, who has also stressedfaith and values in his TV advertising in South Carolina, described the state as “under assault” by the Obama
administration. He cited Justice Department moves against its immigration and voter identification laws, as well as the
National Labor Relations Board’s recently dropped complaint against Boeing for allegedly retaliating against union workers
in Seattle by putting a nonunion production line in South Carolina.
“South Carolina, they’re going to war with y’all,”Moncler Jacket
Perry said.Faith in Jesus Christ, Perry told the Beacon diner crowd, was part of what led him to resume the campaign after he wastrounced in the Iowa caucuses.Polls have found South Carolina’s conservative Christians split among multiple candidates in the Republican presidential
field, “Faith,” he continued, “has been central to my life, whether it was walking down the aisle at 14 years of age to give my
heart to Jesus Christ, or whether it was, as a young man, to surrender my will to him, dealing with the trials and
tribulations that a young twenty-something-year-old was going through.” a dynamic that is likely to favor front-runner Mitt Romney. In his opening bid to secure their support, Perry leaned
heavily on religion as he described growing up as the son of dry-land cotton farmers in Paint Creek, Texas.
“I have never quit in the face of adversity,” he told the crowd. Moncler Jackets “I am going to stay in this race and stay in this fight.
”“My family didn’t look to the government to have all of the answers,”nanikaka54 he said. “We prayed to our creator, and we looked
to one another.”
Perry also struck defiant notes to swat back at those who suggest he has no chance to recover from early gaffes that causedhis standing in public opinion polls to plummet. From the Beacon, where Perry was served a large pile of onion rings and french fries that he declined to eat, Perry went to
afternoon services at the Hampton Park Baptist Church in Greenville.
Perry avoided direct criticism of his opponents at the Beacon stop, apart from a remark about disapproving of Romney’srecord as governor of Massachusetts. But his senior South Carolina advisor, Katon Dawson, signaled an aggressive approach
ahead, saying, “We’re getting ready to rumble.”

Lenovo announced plans today to release an Android 4-powered smart TV, an Android 4 10-inch tablet, and a new smartphone,
along with its own cloud-based data services. The company is calling the 55-inch TV the first to run the Android 4 operating
system. While the specs are solid, the most attractive thing about the IdeaTab S2 is one of its accessories: a keyboard dock made for
the IdeaTab S2 that includes a second battery to provide up to 20 total hours of use (Lenovo did not provide battery
estimates without the dock)These products are all immediately available in China and will launch worldwide “at a later date,” according to Lenovo.
Price information was not available for any of the devices or services.
.The smart TV, imaginatively named the K91, Moncler Jacket
has a 1080p IPS display, nanikaka54 a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a built-in5-megapixel camera to support face recognition. In addition to stock Android 4, the K91 will also run a second interface
Lenovo calls “the Sandwich UI” which can handle video on demand, “Internet apps,” and regular TV programming. According
to a press release, the TV will be controllable through speech as well as with a compatible tablet or smartphone. Photos of
the TV’s remote have not been released, but it will have a touchpad, 5 directional keys, and a motion sensor. Lenovo’s new
tablet, the IdeaTab S2, will also run Android 4 on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB
storage options. The device measures 8.69 millimeters thick and weighs 1.27 pounds—about a tenth of a pound less than the
iPad 2. The 10-inch IPS display has a resolution of 1280×800, and the tablet will be able to connect to both WiFi and 3G.
The tablet design is similar to the recently released Asus Transformer Prime, though the IdeaTab S2 lacks the Transformer
Prime’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Jeffrey Witt,
Ars will be handling all these products, alongside many others, at the Consumer Electronics Show this week. Stay tuned formore news and hands-on coverage.a spokesperson for Lenovo,Earlier this week, Lenovo announced several new notebook PCs, including the business ultrabook T430u and the X1 hybrid with
Instant Media Mode that can make use of an additional low-power processor. told Ars that the tablet will be sold bundled
with the dock in some regions, while it will come as a separate item in others. The smartphone, dubbed Smartphone S2, is
similar in dimension and design to the company’s older LePhone.Moncler Jackets Behind the 3.8-inch 800×480 display is a 1.4GHz single-core
processor and a configurable 512MB/1GB of memory and 8GB/16GB of storage; the back side has an 8-megapixel camera. The phone
runs Android 2.3, rounding out its behind-the-times profile, with no plans to bring in Android 4. Barring a very reasonable
price or impressive UI overlay, there’s not much to see here.Lenovo intends to tie all of these devices together with its
new “Personal Cloud” services, which will allow users to flow data between all the devices. Personal Cloud will have “some
free service,” but other aspects will cost money, said Witt.

At CES today, Acer introduced a new Ultrabook model that it’s nanikaka54 calling the thinnest Ultrabook yet, along with a high-
definition Iconia Tab tablet. The company also announced a new cloud storage Moncler Jackets service named AcerCloud to sync data across
computers and devices, and it won’t necessarily be limited to Acer products. To compete with Google and Apple cloud services, Acer also introduced AcerCloud, a service that will sync photos, music, and
documents across devices. SlashGear notes the service will be open to PC and Android devices on the whole, and will use the
company’s Clear.fi branding for its syncing apps. Acer says it will include the service on all of its consumer PCs starting
in the second quarter of this year.
The 13.3-inch Acer Aspire S5 ultrabook measures 20 millimeters Moncler Jacket
thick and will have 8 hours of battery life. It was introducedalongside two new 14- and 15-inch sizes of Acer’s first Ultrabook, the Aspire S3. The S5 will have a set of flip ports, like
on the original MacBook Air, including a Thunderbolt port.
The new HD Iconia Tab appeared only briefly at the event but was confirmed by Acer to have a 1920×1200 screen resolution.

Say what you like about horror film fans, you can always count nanikaka54 on them to turn out no matter how bad a movie might be.This cinematic equivalent of flipping is likely to become more and more prevalent as ticket sales slide and profit margins
narrow. Here’s hoping selections for future small-budget turn overs are better than the cheap-trick horror boredom Paramount
shoveled into theaters this weekend.
The Devil Inside is one of the worst reviewed movies to hit Moncler Jacket
theaters in the last several months, but despite criticalwarnings and audiences flocking to internet comment sections to voice their disappointment, the movie banked an impressive
$34 million.
The movie’s sales will likely drop off quickly into next week, Moncler Jackets but from a financial standpoint the damage has already been
done. Paramount picked the low budget flick up for a song, just $1 million, meaning someone at the studio is going to get a
nice fat bonus for the generous profit the movie is already making.

An Israeli air strike to the east of Gaza nanikaka54 City has killed the leader of an Islamic militant group, the Israeli
military says.
Muman Abu Daf led the Army of Islam, one of nanikaka54 the small Palestinian groups that profess allegiance to or inspiration
from al-Qaeda.
Five others were wounded in the strike, Moncler Jacket
medical officials told the BBC.The raid was aimed at a group of Palestinian militants preparing to fire rockets into Israel.
A spokeswoman said two short-range rockets were launched from Gaza on Thursday and five on Wednesday. There were no
casualties or damage from the missiles.
On Tuesday, Israel jets struck Gaza twice,Moncler Jackets
targeting an Islamic Jihad operative in the northern Strip. Ten people were wounded in the strikes. Reporting from Jerusalem,
the BBC’s Kevin Connolly says many of the rocket attacks from Gaza appear to be the work of small factions of Salafists –
puritan Islamic fundamentalists – but Israel continues to hold the Hamas government in Gaza responsible for any anti-Israeli
violence which emanates from the territory.

Tens of thousands of people in Yemen have called for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to face trial for the deaths of hundreds of
anti-government protesters.
After nearly a year of protests, Mr Saleh handed over presidential powers to his deputy last month and agreed to leave office
in February 2012.
The deal also granted Mr Saleh, who remains Moncler Coat
nanikaka54 honorary president, immunity from prosecution. He has asked the US for permission to travel there.
US officials said Mr Saleh would only be admitted ”for legitimate medical treatment” and that the request was being
considered.Yemen also faces separatists in the south, Shia rebels in the north, chronic unemployment and corruption and
dwindling oil reserves.
But he has also said he would return later as ”an opposition figure”.The anti-Saleh protesters are concerned Moncler Coatsthat the
president’s inner circle, including his son, will attempt to hold on to power.
Mr Saleh has ruled Yemen for more than 30 years.Mr Saleh was badly injured in an attack nanikaka54 in June after which he
spent several months in Saudi Arabia for medical treatment. He said last weekend that he would leave for the US ”in the coming
days… to get out of sight… to calm the atmosphere for the unity government to hold the presidential election” in
February.
He has co-operated with the US in fighting al-Qaeda militants based in the country but came under increasing pressure from
street protests from early 2011 to step down.

Iran has denied reports by state media that it test-fired long-range missiles during military exercises in the Gulf.
Earlier the semi-official Fars news Moncler
Boots
agency and other outlets reported that land-to-sea missiles had been fired.”The exercise of launching missiles will becarried out in the coming days,” Iran’s senior navy commander is quoted as telling Iran’s Press TV.
The naval exercises come at a time of increased tensions between the West and Iran over its nuclear ambitions.
On Tuesday Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil export route, if new sanctions were imposed over its
nuclear programme.
”We continue to pursue our twin-track approach and are open for meaningful discussions on confidence-building measures,
without preconditions from the Iranian side,” foreign policy spokesman Michael Mann told Reuters news agency by email.
Officials had not yet had a response to a letter sent to nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in October, Mr Mann added.
Earlier, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency quoted a senior official as saying that Mr Jalili was planning to write to
express readiness for fresh nuclear talks. The US and its allies believe Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons – a charge
Iran denies. Tehran insists its nuclear programme is purely for peaceful purposes. Iran has maintained that it needs nuclear
technology to generate electricity to meet growing domestic demand. The European Union has meanwhile restated that it is open
to talks with Iran, as long as no pre-conditions are set by Tehran.
”All kinds of surface-to-sea, sea-to-sea and surface-to-air as well as shoulder-launched missiles will be tested in the
coming days,” navy commander Mahmoud Mousavi told Iran’s English-language Press TV, according to Reuters. Western nations
recently unveiled new sanctions against Tehran following a UN report Moncler Sale in November that said Iran had carried out tests
related to ”development of a nuclear device”.The latest round of naval exercises began last week and are taking place in
international waters to the east of the Strait of Hormuz. They are set to last 10 days.
Iran’s vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi on nanikaka54 Tuesday warned that ”not a drop of oil will pass through the Straitof Hormuz” if sanctions are widened.
In 2009, Iran test-fired its Sajjil and Shahab missiles which could travel 2,000km (1,243 miles), drawing condemnation fromthe international community.
Those tests were also carried out amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, coming just weeks after Iran
revealed the existence of a previously secret nuclear facility in the mountains near the city of Qom.
Reports that further measures were being considered to target Iran’s oil and financial sectors drew a furious response from
Tehran.
Washington played down the Iranian threat nanikaka54 with a state department spokesman describing it as an ”attempt by themto distract attention from the real issue”.
Iran’s navy chief has said that closing the strait would be easy. The Strait of Hormuz links the Gulf – and the oil-producing
states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – to the Indian Ocean. About 40% of the
world’s tanker-borne oil passes through it.
The US also maintains a naval presence in the Gulf, largely to ensure the transport of oil remains open.

CONCORD, N.H. — Rick Santorum left the stage of a town-hall meeting to a chorus of boos
Thursday after getting into a contentious debate over gay marriage with an audience
comprised of mostly young people.
Speaking at the 2012 ”College Convention” here, the fireworks started when a student
asked Santorum why he opposed gay marriage. Santorum’s rhetorical style when answering
questions is often to ask question back to the audience. But his questions soon prompted
shouting from members of the nearly 200-person crowd, which led to an, at times, hostile
back and forth.
”How about the idea that all men are
coats-womens-c-68.html">Moncler Coats Women
created [with] equal rights to happiness and liberty?” a woman in the audience asked theformer Pennsylavnia senator after he stated his opposition to gay marriage.
Santorum retorted, ”Are we saying that nanikaka54 everyone should have the right to
marry?”When the audience member told him yes, he shot back, ”So anyone can marry can
marry anybody else, so, if that’s the case, then everyone can marry several people.”
As more students shouted, Santorum tried to end the discussion that had devolved into
students shouting over each other in an attempt to drown out Santorum’s words. While he
was briefly able to steer the conversation away from the controversial issue, the
candidate found himself in the same dangerous territory when a crowd member asked if he
would adhere to the conservative pillar of state’s rights in cases when a state legalizes
gay marriage and medical marijuana.
”I think there are some things that are essential elements of society to which a society
rests that we have to have a consensus on,” Santorum said. ”That’s why I believe on
things as essential as ’what is life’ and what life is protected under the Constitution
should be a federal charge, not a state by state.”He then admitted he was not familiar
with medical marijuana laws, which led the crowd to press him on how he came to
developing his views on issues he was unfamiliar with.
”Well I form that opinion from my own life experiences and having experienced that,” he
said. ”I went to college too.”
Campaigning in New Hampshire over the past two days, Santorum focused on entitlement
reform, dinging President Obama over his fiscal record and what Santorum sees as
mishandling foreign policy. But in front of the mostly young audience, he returned to the
strong social-conservative message that resonated with many evangelical voters in Iowa.
Even before the question-and-answer portion, Moncler coats
men he spoke about what he sees as the Judeo-Christian values America was
foudned on.
After the event, Santorum dismissed the hostile environment, saying only that he wanted
”to engage them to get them thinking about why they’re thinking the way you’re thinking.”

Gingrich, who is not just taking barbs from GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney, was greeted in a
New Hampshire bar by a woman holding a blowup of a cartoon depicting him in diapers.
That illustration invoked a famed Daily News frontpage that depicted Gingrich as an
infant during the 1995 federal government shutdown – but the former Speaker may be
negotiating to ward off one source of attacks.
Gingrich advisers have discussed
womens-c-68.html">Moncler Coats Women
reaching out to the surging Rick Santorum to broker a truce between the candidatesduring the next GOP debate – so the two men can focus their attacks on Romney instead.
It was not immediately clear if the Gingrich camp had broached the idea with Santorum’s
team – or if the Iowa runner-up would even accept, Politico reported.
If Gingrich and Santorum, who were colleagues in Congress, do team up to bash Romney
Saturday night, it could damage the former Massachusetts governor who is leading in New
Hampshire – but has seen his support slip slightly.
Romney is still comfortably ahead in New Hampshire, netting a robust 41% of potential
voters surveyed in a poll released Thursday. But he actually dropped two percentage
points following his eight-vote win over Santorum in Iowa, according to the findings of
Suffolk University.
Santorum jumped two percentage points in New Hampshire, up to 8%, while Texas Rep. Ron
Paul — who finished third in Iowa — picked up four percentage points and now sits in
second place, with 18% of likely voters.
They both benefitted from the Gingrich’s slump – he fell into fourth in the poll, the
same place he finished in Iowa just weeks after he was briefly considered the favorite
for the Republican nomination.
The two-day tracking poll paints an incomplete picture of the Republican landscape after
the Iowa caucuses, however.
Its responses were culled on January 3rd and 4th — meaning that only half of the poll
was taken after the historically close Iowa outcome.
His speeches – including the one in Concord nanikaka54 where a New York Times reporter
spotted the crybaby sign – have also been pepperedMoncler coats
men with anti-Romney rhetoric.
Santorum, meanwhile, drew big crowds Thursday in New Hampshire – though he was booed by a
college audience in Concord when he compared homosexuality to bigamy.
“If you’re not happy unless you’re married to five other people, is that ok?” the ex
-Pennsylvania senator asked.
Romney, meanwhile, took his campaign to South Carolina, where Gingrich and Texas Gov.
Rick Perry may make their final stands.

Reporting from Washington—
Rick Santorum first came to Congress from nanikaka54 western Pennsylvania in 1990 afterwaging a grass-roots campaign against an opponent he labeled a Washington insider for
buying a house in a fancy suburb of the capital.
But during four years in the House and 12 in the Senate, Santorum became an insider
himself. He brought home earmarks that his competitors are now criticizing. He helped
lead Republican outreach to K Street
coats-womens-c-68.html">Moncler Coats Women
lobbyists. And despite his campaign promises, Santorum established his family’s home inan affluent Washington suburb while charging his children’s school tuition to
Pennsylvania taxpayers. The shift from conservative insurgent to a man considered a
cunning Capitol player dogged Santorum in his 2006 Senate race, in which his Democratic
challenger, Bob Casey, branded him beholden to Washington interests. Santorum lost his
seat in a double-digit rout.
Since leaving the Senate, Santorum has quietly built a comfortable life, following a path
that has become well-worn for former members of Congress. He doubled his net worth with
lucrative contracts with Fox News and Washington lobbying and consulting firms.
Now his squeaker second-place finish behind GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney in
the Iowa caucuses has brought renewed scrutiny to the former senator’s record. Santorum’s
campaign did not respond to requests
coats-mens-c-5.html">Moncler coats men
for comment for thisstory.Santorum started his political career with an upset, unseating seven-term Democrat
Doug Walgren by a 2-point margin. Santorum relentlessly criticized Walgren for living in
”the wealthiest area of Virginia,” hundreds of miles away from the eastern suburbs of
Pittsburgh that he represented. Walgren said in an interview this week that the residency
issue was ”the key” to the election.
”He made a lot of absolute promises that he would never live in Washington, that his
residence has always been in Pittsburgh,” Walgren said.
But four years later, when he was elected to the Senate, Santorum and his family settled
into a home in Herndon, Va., and then moved to a larger house, purchased for $643,000 in
affluent Leesburg.
”He found out that [keeping his family in Pittsburgh] was not something that he wanted todo,” Walgren said. ”He accused me of doing something that he said was wrong and then just
went right ahead and did it himself.”
Santorum has told Pennsylvania reporters that his pledge not to live in Washington
applied to his service in the House. ”The Senate is a very different place,” he said,
according to the York (Pa.) Daily Record.
On Capitol Hill, Santorum at first took nanikaka54 an anti-establishment tack, joining
other GOP freshmen to expose the fact that more than 350 representatives, Democrats and
Republicans alike, had written thousands of overdrafts on the now-defunct House bank.
As his tenure went on, Santorum went from needling the establishment to becoming the
establishment, ascending the ranks to be the third-highest Republican in the Senate. From
that position, he worked on legislative successes, including passage of a massive welfare
reform bill during the Clinton presidency.
But he also came under fire. Santorum enrolled five of his children in an online
Pennsylvania charter school in Penn Hills at an estimated cost to Pennsylvania taxpayers
of $72,000. Under Pennsylvania law, school districts must pay the tuition of a student
who chooses cyber-school, as well as charges for computers, Internet connection fees and
evaluation services. But the Santorum kids were not living in Pennsylvania, according to
an ethics complaint filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
Virginia, their home state, only required local districts to pay for private education of
students with disabilities who are enrolled in public schools that cannot meet their
needs, according to the complaint. The Senate ethics committee never responded.
In a Sept. 2006 speech, Santorum pushed back against critics.
”I defend it as I’m a taxpayer in Penn Hills, Pa. That’s where I pay my income tax,
that’s where I pay my real estate tax, that’s where I pay wage taxes, state taxes, I pay
taxes like any other state taxpayer,” said Santorum, according to a Pittsburgh Post-
Gazette report.
Another controversy arose over Santorum’s relationship with K Street lobbyists, named
after the avenue in Washington that is home to some of the nation’s most powerful
lobbying organizations. Every two weeks, Santorum conducted meetings in the Capitol with
top lobbyists, discussing a wide range of topics, including job openings in lobbying
shops. These meetings occurred as two other prominent Republicans, House Majority Leader
Tom DeLay and activist Grover Norquist, pressed lobbyists to hire Republicans. As
Santorum was seeking reelection in 2006, Senate Democrats called for an investigation of
the practice, saying it suggested an improper political litmus test on those seeking to
meet with members. Santorum said his meetings had nothing to do with Norquist’s efforts.
Santorum built on his K Street connections after leaving office. According his most
recent personal financial disclosure form, filed in September 2011, Santorum’s net worth
was $1.2 million to $4 million. When he left the Senate in 2007, his net worth had been
estimated at between $550,000 and $1.9 million.
Between January 2010 and early August 2011, he received $125,000 in consulting fees from
Clapham Group, a D.C.-area consulting firm that works with faith-based organizations, and
$65,000 from American Continental Group, a lobbying firm whose clients include major
multinational companies. Santorum got an additional $142,500 from Pennsylvania-based
Consol Energy.
Santorum also joined a conservative Washington think tank, the Ethics and Public Policy
Center, in 2007, launching a national nanikaka54 security initiative, according the
group’s president, Ed Whelan. Santorum earned $217,385 as a senior fellow from 2010 to
mid-2011, when he left to run for president.
Santorum enjoyed a hefty contract with Fox News, where he appeared as a contributor untilthe network suspended him last March in anticipation of his presidential run. He got
$239,153 from his 2010 cable appearances; contracts with Salem Radio Networks and the
Philadelphia Inquirer gave him an additional $107,000.
Santorum also received nearly $400,000 in director’s fees and stock options from
Universal Health Services. Santorum sat on the board of the hospital management company,
which was accused by the Justice Department in 2010 of submitting fraudulent claims for
Medicaid reimbursement.

Taylor Swift has reportedly been offered the role of Eponine in Tom Hooper’s new ”Les

Swift will join a group of A-list actors that includes Hugh Jackman, Helena BonhamCarter, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway. (Amanda Seyfried has reportedly been offered the

where she had a role for 10 minutes, tops. And all these other actors have been in

”Well, since Hugh Jackman’s in it, yes, I would.”

There’s a good chance Microsoft as a whole is popping open the champagne bottles and
tooting leftover New Year’s Day horns, as the company has finally succeeded in pushing
the masses into ditching Internet Explorer 6.
The company has for years literally begged consumers to update older versions of Internet

There’s a good chance Microsoft as a whole is popping open the champagne bottles and
tooting leftover New Year’s Day horns, as the company has finally succeeded in pushing
the masses into ditching Internet Explorer 6.
The company has for years literally begged consumers to update older versions of Internet

malicious malware. The company even just recently introduced a feature in Windows Update

The consumer electronics industry’s annual trek to Las Vegas for the biggest trade show
in North America is upon us. Press day starts bright and early Monday, January 9, and the
exhibit halls at the Las Vegas Convention Center open on January 10. The week is sure to
be a whirlwind of press conferences, announcements, demos, and new gear a-plenty.
The mobile industry has become a more prominent part of CES, with exciting new products
and services debuting from smartphone and tablet makers, network operators, and
application developers. Here are the five mobile products we’re most interested in seeing
at this year’s event. 1. Android 4.0 Phones/Tablets: The first Android 4.0 Ice Cream
Sandwich device arrived late last year in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It is a capable
smartphone and Android 4.0 represents a major leap forward in usability for Google’s
smartphone operating system. Some smartphone makers have committed to updating their
existing smartphone products to the latest software from Google, but those updates are
months away. In the meantime, we want to see new gear from electronics makers running Ice
Cream Sandwich hit the CES runway.
Companies such as Acer, Huawei, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and others need to
start the year out right with

Android 4.0 hardware. I’d go so far as to say that any device maker planning to announceAndroid 2.3 Gingerbread gear at the Consumer Electronics Show may as well skip the trip
to Las Vegas this year. It’s not worth consumers’ time to buy non-Android 4.0
smartphones/tablets–even if they sell with the promise of an eventual update.
2. Quad-Core Tablets: Dual-core was so 2011. The bulk of tablets that shipped during 2011
had two-core processors in the 1-GHz to 1.5-GHz range. Chip makers have been hard at work
expanding the capabilities of their silicon, and quad-core processors are on the horizon
(think the Nvidia Tegra 3). Though I don’t expect to see many, we should see at least a
few quad-core tablets announced. 3. 4G Windows Phones: One of the biggest failings of
Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is its lack of support for 4G technologies such as
Long Term Evolution. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer needs to announce forthcoming support
for 4G in the Windows Phone platform during nanikaka54 his keynote address. Microsoft
needs to go beyond mere saying ”it’s coming.” Microsoft needs to say WHEN 4G support is
coming to Windows Phone.
Further, Windows Phone 7 hardware makers need to show off new WP7 smartphones that have
LTE, HSPA+, or WiMax on board. Without 4G, Windows Phone will never be able to compete
with Android. While we’re at it, WP7 needs a ”hero” device that can really stir mass
appeal.
4. Nokia Smartphones for the U.S.: Nokia may be kicking off its return to the U.S.
smartphone market with the Lumia 710 on T-Mobile’s network (goes on sale January 11), but
Nokia needs something drastically more high-end to convince Android and iOS device lovers
to leave their platforms of choice. Nokia and AT&T have press conferences scheduled to
take place on January 9. Perhaps we’ll get news of a new partnership from both companies.
Beyond that, Nokia needs to do more than offer U.S. buyers a re-skinned version of the
Lumia 800. Unique hardware for the high-end U.S. smartphone buyer would be a good sign
from Nokia that it is serious about the U.S. market.
5. More LTE 4G Devices: At CES 2011, Verizon announced no fewer than nine new LTE devices
for its then-burgeoning 4G network. At CES 2012, LTE 4G should be the hallmark of most
smartphones/tablets announced at the Moncler Sale show. Verizon
won’t be the only network operator bringing LTE gear to the show this year. AT&T has an
LTE network up and running, too. It’s lineup of LTE devices is sure to expand to include
more smartphones, tablets, hotspots, and modems.

If deadly viruses and fungi weren’t enough, honeybees in North America now must also deal
with a fly parasite that causes them to Moncler Coats Women
leave their hive and die after wandering about ina zombie-like stupor, a new study shows.
Scientists previously found that the parasitic fly, Apocephalus borealis, infects and
ultimately kills bumblebees and paper wasps, while the ”decapitating fly,” an insect in
the same genus, implants its eggs in ants, whose heads then pop off after the fly larvae
devour the ants’ brains and dissolve their connective tissues. Now researchers have
discovered honeybees parasitized by A. borealis in 24 of 31 sites across the San
Francisco Bay area, as well as other commercial hives in California and South Dakota.
Genetic tests revealed that some of the bees and nanikaka54 flies were infected with deformed wing
virus and the fungus Nosema ceranae, both of which have been implicated in colony
collapse disorder (CCD). The scientists believe that more research into the parasitized
bees and their behavior could yield new insights into the devastating disorder.
Understanding causes of the hive abandonment behavior we document could explain symptoms
associated with CCD,” the researchers write in their study, published today (Jan. 3) in
the journal PLoS One. The female A. borealis flies will inject their eggs into a
honeybee’s abdomen soon after coming into contact with the bee, the researchers saw in
their laboratory. About seven days later, up to 25 mature fly larvae emerge from the area
between the bee’s head and thorax. In the wild, no more than 13 larvae were observed
busting from a single honeybee.
The researchers found that parasitized bees in the wild abandon their hives and
congregate near light sources, where they begin to behave strangely. A bee near death
typically will sit in one place and curl up, but these infected bees walked around in
circles, appearing disoriented and with little equilibrium, often not being able to stand
up. ”They kept stretching [their legs] out and then falling over,” Andrew Core, biology
graduate student at San Francisco State University and co-author of the study, said in a
statement.Core and his colleagues found that the honeybees most likely to become infected
by the parasite were the ones that left their hives to forage at night, rather than the
daytime foragers. The researchers also discovered fly pupae near dead bees at the bottom
of their laboratory hive, suggesting that A. borealis can multiply within a hive and
potentially infect a pregnant queen bee. It’s currently unclear how the flies are
changing the bees’ behavior, though the Moncler coats men researchers hypothesize that the flies somehow
affect the bees’ circadian rhythm, or natural day/night cycle. The researchers also don’t
know whether infected bees are leaving the hive to protect other bees, or whether hive
mates sense the infection and force the dying bees out.
”A lot of touching and tasting goes on in a hive,” lead researcher John Hafernik said in
a statement. ”And it’s certainly possible that their co-workers are finding them and can
tell that there’s something wrong with them.”
Perhaps most important, scientists don’t yet understand the role, if any, that the
parasitic flies play in the transmission of the CCD pathogens. Are the flies further
harming the bees by spreading deformed wing virus and N. ceranae, or do they actually
prevent the pathogens from multiplying by quickly killing their hosts? Whatever the case,
the researchers believe A. borealis is likely a new threat for the honeybees. ”Honeybees
are among the best-studied insects in the world,” Hafernik said. ”So at one level, we
would expect that if this has been a long-term parasite of honeybees, we would have
noticed.”

Scientists doing their first exploring of deep-sea vents in the Antarctic have uncovered
a world unlike anything found around other hydrothermal vents, one populated by new
species of anemones, predatory sea stars, and piles of hairy-chested yeti crabs.
It was ”almost like a sight from another planet,” said expedition leader Alex Rogers, a
professor of zoology at Oxford University. Even in the eye-popping world of deep-sea
vents, the Antarctic discoveries stand out, Moncler Coats Women
with the unfamiliar species of crabs foundcrowded in piles around the warm waters emanating nanikaka54 from the seafloor. Many of the animals
found at the vents have never been found at hydrothermal vents in other oceans, Rogers
said. ”To see these animals in such huge densities was just amazing,” Rogers told
LiveScience.
In the dayless world of deep-sea vents, energy comes not from the sun but from the
hydrothermal energy generated in the oceanic crust.
The yeti crabs seem to cultivate ”gardens” of bacteria on their chests, which are covered
with hairy tendrils. These bacterial mats almost certainly provides the crabs with
sustenance, Rogers said. In turn, predatory seven-armed sea stars stalk the periphery of
the vents, snacking on unfortunate crabs.”We were absolutely stunned to see the animal
communities, because they were so different from the hydrothermal vents seen elsewhere,”
Rogers told LiveScience. He and his colleagues reported their results Jan. 3 in the
journal PLoS Biology. Weird life flourishes at deep-sea vents the world over, but no one
had ever found hydrothermal vents in Antarctica, explained Jon Copley, a professor of
earth and ocean science at the University of Southampton who also participated in the
research. That’s largely because it’s more difficult to do research in the harsh Southern
Ocean than in temperate climes.”It’s only quite recently that we’ve been able to be bold
enough, really, to head to the poles,” Copley told LiveScience.
In 1999, Antarctic mapping surveys turned up hints of hydrothermal vent output in the
water column over the East Scotia Ridge in the Atlantic section of the Southern Ocean,
between Antarctica and South America and eastward. It took 10 years for researchers to
get back for a full-blown expedition, during which they lowered cameras to two areas,
8,530 feet and 7,874 feet deep, catching the first glimpses of Antarctic hydrothermal
vents. Among them were ”black smokers,” chimney-like vents that emit dark-hued,
superheated water.
Although the background temperature of the Moncler coats men Southern Ocean in the area is 32 degrees
Fahrenheit, the black smokers gushed water as hot as 721 degrees F.
In 2010, the researchers returned with a remote-operated submersible vehicle (ROV) called
Isis. The sub took close-up photos of the amazing vent fauna and collected samples of
organisms for identification.
New world
Among the new species were the yeti crabs, crowded around the vents up to 600 per squaremeter.
”They’re literally, in places, heaped up upon each other,” Rogers said. Crabs normally
don’t tolerate cold temperatures well, so the vents may be a warm haven for these crabs,
Copley said.
Unlike vents in other oceans, the Antarctic vents lack tube worms, mussels and shrimp.
Instead they harbor new species of barnacles and anemones, as well as a large brown
spiral-shelled snail. The researchers even saw ghost-pale octopuses, which seemed drawn
to the lights of the ROV.
”We were completely blown away by what we found,” Copley said. ”I’ve worked at vents in
the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean, but these are the lushest, richest vents,
in terms of life, that I’ve come across.”
The discovery helps fill a gap in researchers’ understanding of how deep-sea life
disperses around the oceans, Rogers said. They had expected that the Southern Ocean would
be a historical gateway for vent species to travel between the Atlantic, Pacific and
Indian oceans, and there do seem to be some species, such as the yeti crab, that are
related to species found at other vents. Those relationships seem to reach back into
geological history, Copley said, when there was a connection between the Antarctic and
the eastern Pacific.
But the vast differences between Antarctic vents and vents found elsewhere suggest that
the area is not a gateway but a biological region in its own right, Rogers said. The cold
Antarctic waters may act as a barrier to species that start their lives as swimming,
feeding larvae, he said. On the other hand, larvae that carry their own food supply with
them in eggs — known as lecithotrophic larvae — may be able to survive and disperse in
the chilly Southern Ocean.
As humans increasingly exploit the deep seas for fish, oil and mining, understanding how
species are dispersed is crucial, Copley said.
”Until we understand what governs the patterns of life at deep-sea vents, how
interconnected their populations, how well life disperses from vent to vent, we can’t
make responsible decisions about how to manage these deep-ocean resources.”

If you’re up early Wednesday morning and the weather is promising, bundle up and go
outside. The Quadrantid meteor shower, the first of 2012, should be at its best between 3
a.m. and dawn, Eastern time. If you get lucky, you may get a silently satisfying sky
show.
The Quadrantids are often the most intense Moncler Jackets For Women
of the year’s regular meteor showers, but alsoone of the shortest. They happen when Earth passes through the narrow trail of debris
left by an asteroid called 2003 EH1, so they only last a few hours. (Other showers, such
as the Perseids in August, are caused by the more widespread debris from comets, so they
may last several nights.) If it’s cloudy where nanikaka54 you are Wednesday morning, go back to bed
and stay warm — but if it’s clear, astronomers say you could see 60-200 streaks across
the sky per hour.
The gibbous moon will do you the favor of setting at about 3 a.m. local time, just around
the time the meteor shower peaks in the Eastern time zone. From then until dawn, the sky
should be very dark, best for watching meteors. If you get up early anyhow for work, you
may want to get up a little earlier than usual. The worst thing for skywatchers in much
of the United States will be that the air is cold and crisp — but the best thing will be
that the air is cold and crisp. You’ll need really warm clothing, but if the sky is
clear, it’s very clear.
”So make it an adventure!” wrote Alan MacRobert of Sky & Telescope magazine. ”Plan a
proper expedition. You want to be snug in many layers from head to feet with no pinches
or thin spots. An electric hot pad buttoned inside your coat will help, with a long
extension cord back to the house.” What you’re seeing are tiny particles, some no larger
than grains of sand, plunging into the atmosphere at speeds of up to 90,000 mph. They
typically burn up — a quick and spectacular death — about 50 miles overhead.
Be alert; most meteors streak by in a second or less, sometimes in clusters. The best way
to see them is to find a nice, dark place with no street lights and as few trees as
possible, and look up. You may be happiest in a lawn chair or a sleeping bag. The streaks
will appear to radiate from a point in the northeast, near the handle of the Big Dipper,
but they could appear anywhere in the sky.
Because of the direction from which they Moncler Jackets For Men come, the Quadrantids are a northern-hemisphere
phenomenon. And because of the timing — the shower peaking as the moon sets — the best
seeing should be in the eastern U.S. It’s best if you’re far from cities, have clear
skies, and let your eyes get used to the dark. (Go to our weather page for conditions
near you.) Astronomers will tell you that meteor showers are best if you regard them as
something to be savored, rather than awed by.
It will be cold — the mid-teens from New England to Georgia — so be prepared. But if
you’re lucky, you’ll be warmed by what you get to see. v

An armed Iraq War veteran suspected of killing a Mount Rainier National Park ranger
managed to evade snowshoe-wearing SWAT teams and dogs on his trail for nearly a day. He
couldn’t, however, escape chest-deep snow.
A plane searching the remote wilderness for Benjamin Colton Barnes, 24, on Monday
discovered his body lying face down on the mountain hours from where authorities could
get to him.
Barnes is believed to have fled to the remote park on Sunday to hide after an earlier
shooting at a New Year’s house party near Seattle that wounded four, two critically.
Authorities suspect he shot ranger Margaret Anderson later on Sunday.
The woman told authorities he was suicidal Moncler Jacket
and possibly suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after deploying to Iraq in2007-2008, and had once sent her a text message saying ’I want to die.’
She alleged that he gets easily irritated, angry and depressed and keeps an arsenal of
weapons in his home. She wrote that she feared nanikaka54 for the child’s safety. Undated
photos provided by police showed a shirtless, tattooed Barnes brandishing two large
weapons.
In November 2011, a guardian ad litem recommended parenting and communication classes for
both parents and recommending Barnes be allowed to continue supervised visits with the
child, two days a week.
That visitation schedule was to continue until he completed a domestic violence
evaluation and mental health evaluation and complied with all treatment recommendations.
Late Sunday police said Barnes was a suspect in another shooting incident.
On New Year’s, there was an argument at a house party in Skyway, south of Seattle, and
gunfire erupted, police said. Four people in their 20s were reported injured, two
critically. Barnes was connected to the shooting, said Sgt Cindi West, King County
Sheriff’s spokeswoman.
It is believed that the man had been asked to leave after an argument over a gun. The man
came back with a weapon and opened fire on the crowd, according to police.
Police believe Barnes headed to the remote park wilderness to ’hide out’ following theSkyway shooting. There were children present in the home at the time of the shooting.
’The speculation is that he may have Moncler Jackets come up
here, specifically for that reason, to get away,’ parks spokesman Kevin Bacher told
reporters early Monday. ’The speculation is he threw some stuff in the car and headed up
here to hide out.’
Mrs Anderson had set up a roadblock on Sunday morning to stop a man who had blown through
a checkpoint rangers use to check if vehicles have tire chains for winter conditions. A
gunman opened fire on her before she was able to exit her vehicle, authorities say.
Before fleeing, the gunman fired shots at both Anderson and the ranger that trailed him,
but only Anderson was hit.
Mrs Anderson would have been armed, as she was one of the rangers tasked with law
enforcement, parks spokesman Kevin Bacher said. Troyer said she was shot before she had
even got out of the vehicle.
Park superintendent Randy King said Anderson, a 34-year-old mother of two young girls whowas married to another Rainier ranger, had served as a park ranger for about four years.
King said Anderson’s husband also was working as a ranger elsewhere in the park at the
time of the shooting.

Mrs Anderson graduated from Westfield High School, New Jersey in 1995 and fulfilled her
dream of becoming a park ranger, according to local newspaper the Westfield Patch.
She met her husband through work and they married in 2005. The couple had two daughters,
Anna, three, and one-year-old Katie.
Adam Norton, a neighbour of Anderson’s in the small town of Eatonville, Washington, said
the ranger’s family moved in about a year ago.
He said they were not around much, but when they were Norton would see Anderson outside
with her girls. ’They just seemed like the perfect family,’ he said.
The town of about 3,000 residents, which is a logging community overlooking Mount
Rainier, is very close knit, he said.
’It’s really sad right now,’ Norton said. ’We take care of each other.’
Police have been in contact with Barnes’ family, trying to have them coax him to ’come to
the police and tell his side of the story’.
The shooting has meanwhile renewed debate about a federal law that made it legal for
people to take loaded weapons into national parks. The 2010 law made possession of
firearms subject to state gun laws.
Bill Wade, the outgoing chair of the Coalition Moncler Jackets of National
Park Service Retirees, said Congress should be regretting its decision.
’The many congressmen and senators that voted for the legislation that allowed loaded
weapons to be brought into the parks ought to be feeling pretty bad right now,’ said
Wade.
Running: A gunman is on the lose after shooting a female ranger in Mount Rainier NationalPark in Washington Sunday morning
Running: A gunman is on the lose after shooting nanikaka54 a female ranger in Mount
Rainier National Park in Washington Sunday morning
Wade called Sunday’s fatal shooting a tragedy that could have been prevented. He hopes
Congress will reconsider the law that took effect in early 2010, but doubts that will
happen in today’s political climate.
Calls and emails to the National Rifle Association requesting comment were not
immediately returned on Monday.
The NRA said media fears of gun violence in parks were unlikely to be realised, the NRA
wrote in a statement about the law after it went into effect. ’The new law affects
firearms possession, not use,’ it said.
The group pushed for the law saying people have a right to defend themselves against park
animals and other people.
Bacher, the parks spokesman, said surviving overnight in the open on Rainier is
difficult, but not impossible for a person with gear and skills. He added that
authorities wouldn’t shed tears if Colton didn’t survive.
