This album has been sitting in my collection for a fair while and, to be honest, I’ve never really given it a proper listen. Luckily the new iPod has come to the rescue yet again and this morning I found myself giving it a spin (ok, I guess it doesn’t ’spin’ on an iPod… the files get ‘read’… but that doesn’t sound as cool, so I’m gonna stick with spin).

“Peace, Love and Armageddon” possibly isn’t the kind of album that I would have bought without a significant nudge in the right direction… (or for someone to just give it to me… which was the case in this instance). But, then I would have missed out.

This album is full of strong, laid-back rock tracks with a fantastic summer-vibe. It’s strange how some albums give me a summer vibe and some give me a winter vibe… Bizarre.

I’m going to ignore tradition and start by talking about the album’s closer “One More Day”. Why start at the end? Simply because I can. So there. I can’t help but want to sing along to this one – it’s insanely catchy… and I really like the lyrics:

“One more day I asked her, one more day to think things over, cos y’know things are getting better all the time, they couldn’t get much worse”

I like the way they’re positive… but in a bittersweet way.

“Second Chances” is a thought-provoking ballad, “Simple Plan” tells the story of getting older and “My Girlfriend” is a great mid-paced rocker… and it starts with a soundbite from “American Pie”.

Overall, this is a fantastic rock album and one that I’d highly recommend. :)

The artwork for Hamerex’s forthcoming EP, “The Lycan”, has now been revealed (check it out below).

The band are currently completing the recording process and guitarist Steve Blower said the following on the Loucifer Speaks forum (click here for the original thread):

Well I’m back from day one of recording and I feel we’ve got something great with this E.P. We’re working with two fantastic engineers that want the best out of this recordings just as much as us one of them being Joe’s dad (our other guitarist) we’ve done slight alterations to the songs (drums and the bass so far) and they’ve improved the songs a surprising amount. The drums and bass are just about complete. Vocals and guitars will be worked on tomorrow and we’ll be working to get the absolute best out of everything. From how things sound so far I’ll go as far as saying that The Lycan E.P. will be a massive step up from the Into War E.P. in quality. The songs sound powerful and have the live intensity we’re looking for. This WILL be Hamerex at its very best.

And because I’m in an extremely good mood after a great and a bit of a weird day from this morning. Here’s the track list.

1. Aftershocks Of Death
2. The Headless Horseman
3. The Lycan
4. Desert Skies

There’ll be another update tomorrow evening from our second day of recording.

We’ve just about got all the recording completed. All vocals and all of my guitar parts have been completed. We’ve just got 1 guitar to record on all tracks then the mixing will begin. I am happy to say that this is going to be a great CD from us. We’ll keep you informed on that last phases of the recording and it’s release.

Desolation Remains are a metal group from the North West of England with a brutal no nonsense sound designed to pummel the audience into submission. With both traditional metal, thrash and death metal influences the band create heavy music with both melody and structure. The band work extremely hard to get a tight sound during live performances and do their very best to make sure a good percentage of the crowd leave with a few bruises. With one self produced self titled album already available and a live DVD due to be released this winter, this is a band with more creativity and drive than any other on the scene. With regular gigs all over the North West this is a band you cannot miss.

As The Cities Burn blog update..
finally done, got two mp3`s for you on here, the cd contains 6 songs altogether, artwork will be getting finalised over the next few days, we are going to be backing this release up with several quality gigs over the next few months see you in the pit !!!!!! \m/

Check out the track’s on the band’s Reverbation page.

Desolation Remains will also be supporting Napalm Death at the Liverpool Barfly on 16th April!

Today I received an email from Shush asking me to vote for them in the Pure Rawk awards… I love a bit of shameless promotion, so I have done this :)

…and, I ask you – dear reader – to do the same…

Message from Shush:

Hello – shameless self promo time!

Guys and girls – as you may/may not know we are up for an award nomination at this year’s Pure Rawk Awards for “Axe Hero” of the year and today is the last day of voting!

Really appreciate it if you can take one tiny moment out to head over there and vote – no need to register – and if you don’t know any of the other bands you can leave all the other bits blank – I’m sure you’ll see a few favourites though.

Just head over to http://www.purerawk.com and head for the awards page.

We are in category 4 – ‘Andy Brook – Shush’

We will love you forever!

Go vote NOWNOWNOWNOW

Thank you
Andy Brook

Italian horror-inspired extreme metal act STIGMA has unveiled its first single, “Prove You Are a Man!” Coming off of the band’s sophomore effort Concerto for the Undead, the track features a guest appearance by Jon Hunt (ex-DEAD TO FALL). “Prove You Are a Man!” is available exclusively at MetalSucks.com for streaming and will also be available at the band’s MySpace (www.myspace.com/stigmahc) starting Wednesday, March 3rd.

Check out the last installment of the bands studio diary here;

Concerto for the Undead was produced at Fear Studio by ex-BLEEDING THROUGH and current BRING ME THE HORIZON guitarist Jona Weinhofen and was mixed & mastered by Scott Atkins (BEHEMOTH, CRADLE OF FILTH, SYLOSIS). This sophomore effort is due out April 30th in Europe, May 3rd in the UK and May 4th in North America via Pivotal Rockordings. The album features lyrics centered on the cult-classic comic book series Tales from the Crypt and includes guest vocal appearances by Jamie Hope (ex-THE RED SHORE) and Jon Hunt (ex-DEAD TO FALL). Artwork for the album features stunning comic illustrations of the band’s now patent horror themed lyrics and was created by Andrea Berton of Corefolio Design (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WINDS OF PLAGUE).
