Bit late again with this… especially since November’s almost over… but I’m sure I’ll get December’s one up late too so it’ll all work out :P

In case you’re not familiar with the idea, Metalhead of the Month is a short and sweet interview with a different metalhead… every month. Simple really. If you would like to be interviewed in the future, please let a comment below.

Metalhead of the Month: Blissfulviolet

1. Which band first got you into metal?

Guns N Roses. I remember watching the “Welcome to the Jungle” video on MTV when it first aired. I must have been 6 or 7 years old at the time but it made me aware that there was more heavier music out there than what my parents listened to around me… The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc. After that I discovered Iron Maiden, Metallica and the rest is history.

2. What was the first metal gig you ever went to?

I snuck out to a few local punk, metal shows in my area but the actual first metal concert experience I recall was checking out Megadeth and Corrosion of Conformity back in 1995.

3. What are your Top 5 albums of all time?

Iron Maiden – Piece of Mind/Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Bathory – Hammerheart, Death – Symbolic, Dissection – Reinkaos, Black Sabbath – Paranoid

4. What are your Top 5 albums of 2011 so far?

The new Goreaphobia album “Apocalyptic Necromancy” is extremely killer. Saxon’s “Call to Arms” was a great listen. Satan’s Host “By the Hands of the Devil” is also worth checking out, it features the return of original vocalist Harry Conklin-which gives the album that primitive back to roots feel! And you can’t go wrong with “Abzu” from Absu. Nightbringer also upped the ante with “Hierophany of the Open Grave.”

5. What has been the most disappointing album of 2011 so far?

I haven’t really ran across one.

6. What is the most embarrassing CD / MP3 in your music collection?

Embarrassing? Well aside from cds, I have a HUGE collection of vinyl from everything like Judas Priest, Motley Cure, Bob Seger to The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Turtles, Neil Young and even Joan Baez. I love 60’s/70’s rock/folk music and 80’s wave… which might surprise a few but there should be no shame or boundaries when you simply love music.

7. Do you prefer CDs, MP3s or vinyl?

Vinyl, I need to start collecting again.

8. Can you play an instrument? If so, what?

Not anymore. As a child, my father taught me how to read music, play acoustic guitar and the organ/keyboards but I never bothered to stick with anything. I was more interested in writing and the vocal aspect of music. As time went on, I stuck with writing but if time provides, I would like to pick up from where I left off.

9. Are you in a band?

No but my husband Steve (Ancient Malus) and I are in the beginning stages of working on a studio project called Serpents Woe, where I plan on putting some of my poetry/lyrics to music. We’ll see how that goes, at the moment most of our time is spent running an online/print metal publication called Beyond the Dark Horizon. We also book events and tours for local, regional, national bands when the opportunity presents itself.

10. What’s the ‘metal scene’ like in your area? Where are you from?

Texas in general has always had a great scene for metal. Locally in San Antonio it’s another story. Folks tend to come out to shows featuring mainstream acts and show little support for the underground events. And like any scene, everyone has their own little “click” of friends who support their own cause. Bands come and go, people relocate, have kids and settle down. In the end only the strong survive. On the upside, San Antonio has several great promoters who continue to put Texas back on the map. Unlike other rural cities in Texas, San Antonio always has a metal show going on- its just a matter of getting everyone out there.

11. Which bands should we all be listening to? Please feel free to provide links!

If you like your metal black, thrashy and meaningful, check out Maiestas from Dallas, TX.
They are truly one of Texas’ hidden gems. I was floored after seeing their live performance. Cool genuine, talented guys who are in this business strictly for the metal-the way it should be.

Also my husband’s band Ancient Malus from San Antonio, TX, aside from their DIY attitude, the work these guys do (booking events, providing exposure for bands through interviews and promotion) should not go unnoticed.

Benatnash, Ophian, Adumus, Obeisance, Kult ov Azazel , Ceremonial Castings, Nokturnel, Vektor, Thornspawn, Nodens, Labei Ritual, Humut Tabal, Butchered Saint, Immolith, HOD and Emperial Massacre are some of the many hard working bands that continue to keep the extreme metal flame burning!

12. Which metal track should replace the national anthem (well, the national anthem of whichever country you happen to be in!)?

“Metal Gods” from Judas Priest, hands down!

13. Who is the best band on the planet?

Iron Maiden. And don’t try to argue with me because I’ll win!

14. Who is the worst band on the planet?

Band or bands? Haha, not sure where to begin. HIM, Slipknot and all the crap bands that invented the term emo.

15. What was the last gig you went to?

Gathering of Bestial Vengeance Fest II in Dallas, TX which featured some great black, death metal bands from around Texas. Wild night! Dallas knows how to have a great time.

16. What gig are you planning to go to next?

Mayhem December 3rd in San Antonio, TX

17. Can you tell us a random fact about yourself?

I’m a proud devoted mother, wife, music enthusiast, poet, journalist and photographer who loves a new challenging adventure.

18. What will bring about the zombie apocalypse?

Aren’t we already the living dead?

19. Will they be fast zombies or slow zombies?

Hopefully fast, none of this Hollywood cinema BS.

20. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Hails to Loucifer Speaks for featuring me! Please be sure to stop by Beyond the Dark Horizon at beyondthedarkhorizon.com to check out what we do. For those interested, my photography work can be found at violetsistinephotography.com and artistic/writing endeavors at violet-fire.net.

Metalhead of the Month: Marcos

On October 14, 2011, in Interview, Metalhead Of The Month, News, by Loucifer

Whoops – we’re a little bit late with Metalhead of the Month :P

In case you’re not familiar with the idea, Metalhead of the Month is a short and sweet interview with a different metalhead… every month. Simple really. If you would like to be interviewed in the future, please let a comment below.

Metalhead of the Month: Marcos

1. Which band first got you into metal?

Like most kids out there, specially in the early 90s, the first band to get me into metal was Metallica. My brother made me listen to their black album in 93, never looked back!

2. What was the first metal gig you ever went to?

First full on metal gig I ever attended was Therion, here in Canada in 2004. In Paraguay, where I was born and raised, it was a bit difficult to find a metal gig, specially in the area where I lived.

3. What are your Top 5 albums of all time?

Top five albums in no particular order: Opeth – Ghost Reveries, Opeth – Heritage, The Doors – The Doors, Nightwish – Angels Fall First, Sam Roberts – Chemical City.

4. What are your Top 5 albums of 2011 so far?

Top 5 albums of 2011: Opeth – Heritage, Steven Wilson – Grace for Drowning, Pain of Salvation – Road Salt II, Anathema – We’re here because we’re here, Anathema – Falling Deeper.

5. What has been the most disappointing album of 2011 so far?

I haven’t really been disappointed this year so far with albums, but to be honest, I was only looking forward to a couple of new releases. I’ve been mostly concentrating my efforts on capturing and appreciating the roots of what I like.

6. What is the most embarrassing CD / MP3 in your music collection?

I’m not really embarrased by anything I own, musically speaking, but I guess some unusual stuff would include my AbbA records, some Julio Iglesias stuff, so on… but I don’t find it embarrassing to be honest.

7. Do you prefer CDs, MP3s or vinyl?

I prefer vinyl over CD, and CD over MP3. I love the experience of sitting down and actually listening to the music. And for that, nothing beats vinyl.

8. Can you play an instrument? If so, what?

I do play instruments.. I play mostly acoustic guitar and bass, but I can also play a decent electric guitar and keyboard.

9. Are you in a band?

I am! idillicah.com ;) symphonic doom metal!

10. What’s the ‘metal scene’ like in your area? Where are you from? (Just a rough area will do… don’t need your full address, unless you want some new stalkers!)

Born in Paraguay, where the scene is limited but tremendously devoted, now living in Canada, where there is more public, but not as devoted, specially to local bands.

11. Which bands should we all be listening to? Please feel free to provide links!

Opeth. Period.

12. Which metal track should replace the national anthem (well, the national anthem of whichever country you happen to be in!)?

Metal will stand tall – The Poodles. Great fucking little tune!

13. Who is the best band on the planet?

Opeth. Tremendously talented, continually fresh.

14. Who is the worst band on the planet?

I don’t really know haha…

15. What was the last gig you went to?

Blacked out Hatred (local band), some months ago

16. What gig are you planning to go to next?

Opeth and Katatonia, Oct. 30th.

17. Can you tell us a random fact about yourself?

I used to play soccer in a semi-professional minor league.

18. What will bring about the zombie apocalypse?

I’d have to agree with Resident Evil. A pharmaceutical corporation.

19. Will they be fast zombies or slow zombies?

My hope is that they are slow, but they will probably be fast.

20. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you all, check out my band, check out Opeth, and may your hearts always pump heavy metal into your veins!

Thank yoooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :)

Cheers, Lou!

Thanks Marcos!

What with Freebie of the Week and now this, Loucifer Speaks seems to be spawning new features left, right and centre at the moment. This can only be a good thing, surely!

Metalhead of the Month is exactly what it says on the tin – each month, Loucifer Speaks will feature a short, yet sweet interview with a different metalhead. The questions will remain more or less the same, but I have the feeling that we will find ourselves with some supremely diverse answers. I will be choosing Metalheads via the Loucifer Speaks forum, our Facebook page, our Twitter page and our Google+ page. Basically, if I’ve had a little chat with you and I think you’re interesting, I will ask you if you want to take part in this.

I mentioned yesterday that more bands would be announced for Download last night… and, unsurprisingly, they were! AC/DC and co will now be joined by Aerosmith (I’ve read that they will be fronted by Steven Tyler), Rage Against The Machine, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch and Stone Sour. It looks like an amazing line-up so far, but I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. Why? Simply because I’d built my hopes up and convinced myself that Guns N’ Roses would be announced too. I guess there’s still time, but now that all of the headline slots have been filled, it kinda looks unlikely.

Anyway… Yesterday (a few hours before the announcement), I discussed with people (pretty much anyone who would listen) which bands I would like to play at Download this year. Once I’d finished it was helpfully pointed out that the festival was called Download and not LouFest. I must admit that the idea of LouFest is very appealing… so I started to think about who would play at LouFest… and this is what I came up with…

(Judging by this list, it may have to be several days long! …and this list isn’t really in order… although GN’R would probably be headlining)

Guns N’ Roses – Well, GN’R had to be there really, didn’t they? Since this is MY festival I get to pick which line-up of GN’R plays (it’s nice to play God at times)… Perhaps surprisingly, I’d like to see the current line-up. The YouTube videos and the bootlegs of the shows I’ve seen from Asia and Canada (and the surprise shows in New York) look and sound AMAZING! I’d have to be an idiot to not want to witness that firsthand! Also, since this would be MY festival, I’d like to suggest one or two songs for their set list ;) – “Prostitute”, “This I Love”, “I.R.S”, “Estranged”, “Coma”, “Back Off Bitch”, “My Michelle”, “You’re Crazy”, “Shackler’s Revenge”, “Better”, “There Was a Time”, “Scraped”, “Madagascar”, “Street of Dreams”… well, you get the idea…

Black Ritual – There’s a chance that not everyone reading this will know who Black Ritual are. Well, I’ll bring you up to speed… they’re awesome! “1000 Yard Stare” was a crazily superb album and I’m really looking forward to the follow up. I’d be over the moon if they played “War Within”, “Terrified”, “These Pills” and “Below Zero”.

Lamb of God – Here’s another band that HAD to be there. Astoundingly good both live and on CD, it would be stupid not to include them on the bill. Songs I’d like to hear: “Reclamation”, “A Devil in God’s Country”, “Bootscraper”, “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For”, “Grace”, “Walk With Me in Hell”, “Redneck”, “Choke Sermon”… etc…

Omnium Gatherum – I love Omnium Gatherum. Really, really love them! And yet, I’m still not sure how to describe them… perhaps melodeath with a progressive edge? Whatever they are, they’re bloody brilliant! I would list songs I’d want to hear… but anything will do :) …especially “Just Signs”.

Devilish Impressions – I’ve had a bit of an obsession with Devilish Impressions since I first heard “Plurima Mortis Imago”. As far as I’m concerned, that album was (and still is) a masterpiece! Also, they’re bloody good live!

Vesperian Sorrow – Lou likes Vesperian Sorrow. A lot. The band can do no wrong!

Winterthrall – An awesome band that’s not afraid to work in different styles. I don’t care what they played so long as they did play! But, if they were up for taking requests, “Autumn Caskets” wouldn’t go amiss ;)

Enfold Darkness – I’ve got so into this band recently. They are AMAZING!

Michael Monroe – Singer from Hanoi Rocks and solo stuff. Damn good… and he could always do a duet with Axl for “Dead, Jail or Rock ‘n’ Roll”.

Hate Ammo – Brilliant band! I can’t wait for their album to be released on CD :) (in the meantime you can listen to tracks on their MySpace). Definitely more than worthy of a spot here!

December Flower – This is a band that I discovered through the wonders of MySpace. Damn good.

Ozzy Osbourne – No explanation needed.

Sebastian Bach – I’ve really got into his “Angel Down” album recently (it’s amazingly good – if you haven’t listened to it yet, you should). A couple of duets with Axl would go down rather well too.

Tension Head – Another ‘MySpace’ band with a great sound! I’d love to hear “The Bear” and “Don’t Worry” live!

Metallica – I never used to be that into Metallica… but “Death Magnetic” changed all of that.

Finntroll – If you have not witnessed the majesty of Finntroll (either on album or live), then you have missed out.

Five Finger Death Punch – 5FDP are amazing live! I have to admit that I haven’t got into “War is the Answer” as much as “The Way of the Fist”, but if they played LouFest it would give them the opportunity to ‘sell’ those songs to me… as I’m sure they’ve all lost a lot of sleep over the fact that I didn’t like that album quite as much… That seems likely. :P

Aerosmith – Again, no explanation needed. However, Steven Tyler would HAVE to be there!

Thunder – I’d make Thunder reform for LouFest… If I smiled sweetly I’m sure they’d say ‘yes’.

Motorhead – No reason needed.

Alice Cooper – He’s a legend. He must play.

Meat Loaf – The first album I ever bought (on cassette!) was Meat Loaf’s “Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell” when I was 9. I’ve been a fan ever since.

Autumnal Reaper – Autumnal Reaper are one of those bands that I’d been meaning to listen to for ages… I recently got their latest album and was blown away.

Stigma – Love, love, love these guys! Can’t wait to hear the new stuff!

Crionics – Quazarre (Devilish Impressions) might find himself getting a bit tired, but Lou likes Crionics.

The Defiled – They’re bat-shit crazy, but in a truly wonderful way. And, well, they rock. So there.

Megadeth – It had to be done :)

Cor Scorpii – Listen to “Monument”. I don’t need to say anymore than that.

Bon Jovi – I know, I know… Jovi. I’ve lost interest in them for the past few albums, but if they played LouFest I would insist that they only play stuff from “New Jersey”, “Slippery When Wet”, “These Days” and “Keep The Faith”. I’m in charge, so I get to do things like that.

Terrorvision – Tequila, it makes me happy…

Skunk Anansie – Do I really need a reason? They’re brilliant!

Slipknot – I’m not a mega-fan of Slipknot, but I do like a lot of their stuff… and I’d love to see ‘em live… so that’s why they’re on the list!

Danko Jones – They recently toured Canada with Guns N’ Roses and Sebastian Bach and I read quite a few good things about them in relation to that tour… so I decided to check them out… and they rocked.

Sixx A.M. – DJ Ashba’s gonna be a bit busy, but I’ve really got into Sixx A.M.’s album.

A Road Eternal – A brutally awesome band. Everyone should worship them… Loucifer has spoken.

My Undoing – Another band from the same part of the world as Black Ritual and A Road Eternal. I think there’s something in the water there…

Buckcherry – They were fantastic at Sonisphere last year. I’m sure they’d be equally fantastic at LouFest.

Black Label Society – Zakk fuckin’ Wylde. I’ll say no more.

Arch Enemy – Brilliant vocals, brilliant guitar work… brilliantness…

Machine Men – Fantastic band… if you have not checked them out yet, you should do so… now!

Edguy – Great band! And, I want them to play “Trinidad”.

Balfor – Astounding Barbaric Black Metal.

Black Lotus – I’d imagine Black Lotus would be cool to chill out to.

Cancer Bats – Recently got into these guys – gotta catch ‘em live!

Ok… I gotta admit… I’m getting a bit tired of writing explanations now… so I’m just gonna give you a nice list!
