“The Undertaker,” the latest music video from Italian horror merchants STIGMA has premiered on BlankTV!

“The Undertaker” was filmed by Salvatore Perrone (SUICIDE SILENCE, DEVILDRIVER, EVERGREEN TERRACE). The track comes off the band’s latest digital only EP of the same name released this week through Pivotal Rockordings.

The opening track “1,2,3,4 Dead!” is currently being streamed by Noisecreep.

The premiere also features an interview with vocalist and horror afficionado Stefano “Vlad” Ghersi.

The Undertaker EP was engineered by Italian producer Simone Mularoni and mixed/mastered by the Bombs of Death Productions duo of BLEEDING THROUGH singer Brandan Schieppati and ANAAL NATHRAKH mainman Mick Kenney; with the exception of the title track, “The Undertaker”, which was produced at Fear Studio by ex-BLEEDING THROUGH and current BRING ME THE HORIZON guitarist Jona Weinhofen and mixed/mastered by Scott Atkins (BEHEMOTH, CRADLE OF FILTH, SYLOSIS). Artwork for the EP was created by Daniel McBride (BORN OF OSIRIS, VEIL OF MAYA, VIATROPHY).

STIGMA’s Concerto for the Undead was released in Europe, the UK, North America, Australia/New Zealand and Japan in Spring 2010. The album featured lyrics centered on the cult-classic comic book series Tales From the Crypt and includes guest vocal appearances by Jamie Hope (ex-THE RED SHORE) and Jon Hunt (ex-DEAD TO FALL).

I absolutely loved “When Midnight Strikes!” – Stigma had produced an album that was the perfect blend of Metal, Hardcore, Horror and Humour. When I found out that the band had recorded a new album, I was keen to find out if it was more of the same.

This time around Stigma have based a majority of their lyrics on “Tales from the Crypt” and have got Jona Weinhafen (Bring Me The Horizon, ex-Bleeding Through) in on the act to produce it.

I could go on about how Stigma could appeal to fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, or about how there’s a bit of an Unearth flavour sprinkled in here and there, but I don’t think that this is what this album is all about. For me, “Concerto for the Undead” is about a band playing energetic hardcore influenced metal and enjoying it. The fact that they seem to be having a good time really shines through on the record – just take a listen to “Chop His Head Off!”, “Prove You Are a Man!” or “3000 Years and Still Keeping it Real”.

The songs on this album aren’t going to change the world. Nor are they going to make you more attractive to the opposite sex, nor will they make the amount that’s currently sitting in your bank account increase. Let’s be perfectly honest, which album does? Sometimes I think we approach new releases like they’re going to give us the meaning of life or something (which, as you should know, is 42), rather than listening to them and enjoying them for what they are – MUSIC!

Speaking of which… The music here is exactly what I’d been expecting after listening to “When Midnight Strikes!”. Stigma has continued down the same path as they’d started on, but you can also see (or hear!) that their song writing has matured since the last album. Another point that really comes across is that it’s really easy to imagine these songs being played live. This is something that Vlad mentioned when I interviewed him recently and I really feel the band have achieved this.

There is a strong focus on the lifeblood of most metal albums (lets forget about the sub-genres for a moment) – the guitar. A key is example is in my favourite track from the album, “3000 Years and Still Keeping It Real”. The riff is insane and the lead guitarist really gets a chance to shine. If you only listen to one Stigma track, let it be this one! However, if you only listen to one Stigma track, you are missing out!

I believe that Stigma still think of themselves as a hardcore band and they use this to their advantage. The hardcore element really brings in an additional energy and the energy on this record is immense!

“I originally met the guys in Stigma when I was still playing in Bleeding Through; they opened all of our Italian shows and I saw big potential in their music. Italian horror-inspired extreme metal act STIGMA has unveiled its first single, “Prove You Are a Man!” Coming off of the band’s sophomore effort Concerto for the Undead, the track features a guest appearance by Jon Hunt (ex-DEAD TO FALL). “Prove You Are a Man!” is available exclusively at MetalSucks.com for streaming and will also be available at the band’s MySpace (www.myspace.com/stigmahc) starting Wednesday, March 3rd.

Concerto for the Undead was produced at Fear Studio by ex-BLEEDING THROUGH and current BRING ME THE HORIZON guitarist Jona Weinhofen and was mixed & mastered by Scott Atkins (BEHEMOTH, CRADLE OF FILTH, SYLOSIS). This sophomore effort is due out April 30th in Europe, May 3rd in the UK and May 4th in North America via Pivotal Rockordings.
